I understand that the SG has shorter shocks than the rest? What would the length be? Can you use lowering blocks on a SG shock?
Just wanna lower my bike more and trying to figure out what combo to use. Adjustable lowering kit on my stock shocks or SG shocks and lowering blocks I allready have installed.
I had a sporty custom that had shorter shocks than the other sportys but the lowering kit said you couldn't use it with the custom. I did anyways and no problems...

SG and RK Custom shocks are 12". Other baggers are 13"

Can you use lowering blocks on a SG shock?
I think you would be pushing it. One good bottoming out and your tire could be making contact with hard, sharp stuff under the fender. Your weight and whether you ride 2 up would of course be factors, but I would not feel comfortable doing it. Remember that your bagger has quite a bit more weight resting on the shocks that does a Sporty. You could take a look at a Mustang solo seat, they sit lower than most I have tried.
I did the Race-Tech kit...about $250 shipped. Ilowered it 1" in front with thenew springs and emulator cartridge when I installed the 21" wheel/tire. The Race Tech kept the ride pretty supple, but I have hit a hard ridge where it bottomed since. I would have preferred to not lower the bike at all, or change out the suspension in front, but it was necessary to balance the bike with the 21/18 wheel tire combo. For the most part the ride is fine, but I was dissapointed the one time I did bottom. It was a pretty big ridge that I didn't see, so I don't see it as something common happening.
I have the HD Touring Lowered shocks on my RG which are the same as the stock SG shocks. I also have lowering blocks on the rear that drop it another1"+ and I don't have any bottoming out issues.
I am not making any guarantees but it works for me,

I have an 08 SG. I tried the lowering blocks and they worked fine. I made mine adjustable . I have since gone to progressive 412's . They are 11". The SG shocks are 12". If you are interested in a set of blocks to fit your bike you can PM me I have two sets. One I purchased off ebay and the other I redesigned off of the original design. They are better, adjustable and do not need the spacer for the shock. Anyway the shocks will always ride better but will always cost more. The blocks I have are adjustable from about 3/8 of an inch to a little over an inch.
