Has anyone tried a longer shock with a lowering kit? Would this give me a shock with a longer stroke and therefore a better ride while retaining the stock appearance or would it be a Rube Goldberg way of screwing up the geometry of the suspension?
I had an 05 FHLT with 13 inch stock shocks and the road6customs lowering kit installed in the middle position. IMO the ride was much better than my stock SG shocks.
Got a bud that put a lowering kit on his '07 Standard and all it did was clank and rub the tire on the fender. He now has my stock SG shocks and suffers from no more clanging or rubbing. He says it seems to ride better. There are some 13" shocks out there that ride at the 12" height (sag set properly) if you're interested.
I just bought a set of 13" shocks off ebay and will be using my existing lowering kit the stock 12" SG shocks are to stiff for me and i have researched all other shocks i will try everthing till i get the ride i want this is a cheap way to try.
I have yet to see a post about SG shocks where somebody say's "I got it!"....
I threw Progressive 440's on and it did stop the bottoming out and extention bump I used to get. Do I feel like I'm floating down the road...NO.
Does my *** hurt anymore once I go over 100 miles....No.
I know they are better than stock and they did eliminate a few problems I had, but I don't know if there is a softer ride out there to be had which will not reintoduce problems of the past.
I read posts from some other guys who have some older bikes and they swear that their bikes ride like Cadilacs...I believe they do too! I just can't afford to keep messing with shocks to find that perfect ride. I'm not sorry I bought the 440's...it's a good shock.
I am running Progressive 412s at 12.5" w/hd springs. I love em. I had run the 440s on my last bike but these seem to ride softer. And yet they still give the bike the lowered look.
Had SG Shocks put on before took it out the Door New as part of the Sales Deal.. Lowered about 1 inch and flat footed firmly and also like the look as well have had no problems since Day 1... 20K on them now ..
