If you read in these forums you will find that alot of guys dont like the 12" Low Profile shocks - preferring the Progressive 412 or 440 12" shocks instead. I went with the TJ lowering kit so I could use the stock 13" shocks. http://www.tj-products.com/products.php
tj lowering kit $138
I'm extremely happy with my 12" shocks, my bike rides better, handles better and looks better. Ride it a little while, and you won't pay no mind to it.
While the lower profile shocks change the geometry some it shouldn't be enough to make much of a difference. You mention riding two up so my question is do you have enoough air pressure for the load? I have a Street Glide and one of the best mods I have done to the bike is get rid of the useless stock Harley air shocks. They didn't seem to do anything well. I now run Progressive 440 I.A.S, shocks of the 12" variety and the bike is a dream to ride.
Try checking the air pressure as a little bit can make a huge difference, but if you're really serious about ride and handling throw that Harley junk in the trash and get some quality aftermarket suspension.

I have heard many statements as such and am considering this as well. I can't say the air shocks are crap but I have nothing to compare them to. The 440's are definatly in the future.

i put 11.5 inch 440s on my road king custom and have not noticed any negative effects with handling. i do ride solo only, but i do bottom the shocks out occasionally (la roads suck!) but otherwise not a bad ride. the big positive thing is its easier to back that bohemoth around now with my short legs
I met a guy at my dealer that was there to buy the Low Profile shocks to replace his Progressives. He said they were always clanking and driving him nuts.
I'm going to try the 12" HD shocks on my EGC soon.
