just noticed my side stand makes a loud knocking/popping noise when i swing it down. also has a lotta play in the bracket where it pivots like a bushing or bearing is bad or missing??? i dont have anything to compare it to. any ideas??
If it is a stock HD jiffy stand.
$60. (or there abouts) is a valuable investment.
Buy the service manual.
It's a simple device, no bearings or bushings.
They sometimes get mud , sand, orpebbles wedged inthem.
Clean it. Does not need lube.
The lube just attracts and traps more dirt and grit.

Yeah but most people when you say "lube" will get out the tub of
bearing grease or the grease gun.
I have never lubed mine and never had a problem with the squeaks etc.
And you all know I live on a gravel road, and that I ride in rain, mud and snow.
Well I can't say NEVER. But I mean never had to lube it.
I just keep it clean, by washing the grime off it.

WRONG AGAIN: it does need to be lubed even if you keep it clean it will be metal to metal rubbing everytime you put it up or down. Use a dry graphite or cable lube or even WD-40. Wash it out good when you wash the bike, after you dry it give it a couple small squirts on each side of the stand bracket work it back and forth a couple times to spread it around.
