Just saw on the News that EXXON-MOBIL had profits in the BILLIONS and that calulated to over 1100.00 per second. A New Tour Harley would be pd in full in 20 seconds. The great Tour Bikes that we all enjoy and Love, takes 3 to 7 years to pay for and we buy the 91 octane from our dear local oil companies. I certainly believe in FREE enterprize and a FREE country, but seems to me some body has gotten values all screwed up and as always the "Average Joe" in America pays the price....... I don't know the Answer, I love my Country and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Just my .02......... hdman
10.61 billion to be exact. Hhhhmmmm, and explain to me again why gas prices are so high. Thats a lot cheese for one company. Wonder what the rest of them made. Then add that up, one big monopoly.
As the old saying goes " The rich get richer, The poor get poorer". Glad the oil companies made their big profit now, because before long the hardworking middleclass will not be able to travel and enjoy the things we now enjoy. We will not be able to afford it. I bought a motorhome 2yrs ago and love it, but now its mostly local trips. I can't really afford the gas it takes to make the long hauls. And that really sux. I am going to keep it though, I just will not be traveling as much as I would like.
They raise prices during holidays because........we use too much fuel. They raise prices when we bomb Iraq because of a shortage that we haven't even realized yet........They raise prices ten minutes after a hurricane warning is issued just in case an oil rig is damaged. We haven't built a gas refinery in the US since the invention of sliced bread........because it's easier to just raise prices out of the reach of the common man than to spend money building the plants that would do away with the so called shortage that caused the high priced to begin with. Do you think the Oil Companies have enough control here?
While there is quite a bit of price fixing that goes on here in the US we enjoy some of the lowest fuel prices in the world.
Traveling thru Canada last year I paid the equivalent of $4 a gallon or more.
Years ago I paid $4.50 a gallon for gas in bush Alaska.
Now I know that most people don't like to hear any thing other than how bad a screwing we are getting from the oil companies, but you have to admit we are not getting hosed as bad as consumers in other countries.
Even several countries with huge oil reserves and production facilities tax the bejeesus out of fuel.
I took a personal interest after Katrina damaged the "hub" in Louisiana. Seems this place is where the price of natural gas is determined. The price of natural gas was raised in Alaska because the price went up at the "hub".
BUT NOT ONE CUBIC FOOT OF ALASKA NATURAL GAS CURRENTLY LEAVES THE STATE !!!!!!
When asked to explain themselves, "This is what we COULD get for natural gas IF we were selling it there."
Based on that reasoning I should be able to sell an 03 Harley for $1,000,0000 USD. I am certain that there is some place in space or time where the Anniversary models would be going for that price.
The difference between what is currently going on and Enron is that Enron got way too greedy. But price fixing is still happening.
Now remember Terry that the congress dealt with this issue on price gouging and they determenedthat there were no need to put a tax on the fuel makers, heck there profit is for the benefit of this country, can't you see this.[sm=imsmilin.gif], I wish sometime's those bastards had to make it in the real world like we do, some say that George sleeps just fine in his bed of profit in the WhiteHouse.[:@]
Not to go against the grain here, and the oil companies sure don't need me defending them, but can you imagine how much it costs to continue trying to find an ever shrinking supply of oil...especially under the ocean floor. After it is found, they still have to invest millions to build the platforms/pumping rigs.
An ever increasing portion of the cost of gas is going to taxes and that makes me much more angry than private industry trying to supply America with the cheapest fuel in the world.
