07 SG ... for the 2nd time in 8 months my upper RH bracket broke this weekend but the LH & mainset is still good.I took it off, went to my local dealer & they gave me a replacement, it helps to know everyone there. They replaced the last one but its just easier for me to do it this time.
Based on all the posts Ive seen regarding this I know many more are have had the same problem.
Im real good at redesigning things (did all the Fast Aire windshield designs) and have a good knowledge of metal applications. If I redesigned a new bracket from better material & had them professionally made... do you think there would be a decent enough market to sell enough to recoup myinvestment of time & money doing this ? Not looking to make a killing but to break even and maybe a little more.
thanks for reminding me. my fairing shakes rediculously. saw that my upper left fairing bracket is busted. I would also like to know if there is there a reason this happens?
It's not really what you sell, but how you sell it, lol Yes, I think there is a market. I would much rather buy a quality piece than fab some angle iron on it. Talk to your local shops and get hooked up with them too!
The reason they break, well, have you looked at them??
i had also considered re-designing the bracket. I even went as far as having a fabrication shop get me a price. They wanted too much per piece unless I would order 500 or so. They were basically a production shop. Anyhow, i scrapped the idea. One thing i was planning on dowin was making the bracket out of stainless steel and 25% thicker material than stock, which i probably why the cost was so high. I have a tendency to over-engineer a redesign.
I say go for it...i know i would like to get a replacement also.
I'm sure theres alot of riders that would like to find a better system than the stock factory piece. I've already replaced both left and right upper mounts and now I have a broken lower right main bracket which is being replaced this Friday under warranty, good thing I found it before the warranty goes in April of this year, also have 20k service being done as well.
I've worked in a couple job shops and it can get expensive to fab a prototype part since it takes time to do a proper set up and production run. It can get done quicker with CNC equiptment once a working product is finished. A thicker and beefier piece made either with mild steelor thicker aluminum would work but I wouldn't mess with stainless since it's more expensive to work with. I'd definately go ahead and find a decent shop once you get a drawing made up. It seems the upper brackets break first but I'm not the only one with a broken main support either.
IDE BUY YOUR BRACKET!
IVE REPLACED A FEW UPPER SUPPORTS (NEAR THE SPEAKER) PROBLEM IS WE JUST KEEP BUYING THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART.. SO ITS NOT A REAL FIX!
BUTISN'T IT A SHAME THAT THE MOCO CANT SIMPLY JUSTFIX THIS PROBLEM!
