Default RE: Fairing Bracket Question

I was thinking about this today and called up F.B.I. They are about 50 miles away. They are not back from Daytona till tonight but I am going to talk to the owner and see if he has allready came up with a fix for this! They do inhouse machine work. I will call him in the morning and see what he says, who knows he may start making them...

ORIGINAL: RenoGlide

07 SG ... for the 2nd time in 8 months my upper RH bracket broke this weekend but the LH & mainset is still good.I took it off, went to my local dealer & they gave me a replacement, it helps to know everyone there. They replaced the last one but its just easier for me to do it this time.

Based on all the posts Ive seen regarding this I know many more are have had the same problem.

Im real good at redesigning things (did all the Fast Aire windshield designs) and have a good knowledge of metal applications. If I redesigned a new bracket from better material & had them professionally made... do you think there would be a decent enough market to sell enough to recoup myinvestment of time & money doing this ? Not looking to make a killing but to break even and maybe a little more.

All comments welcomed

I personally wouldn't be interested as it too easy and cheap to fab something up. It doesn't have to be pretty, just functional as it's not visible. There's is someone already doing this on another forum.

By the way love your windshields.

Default RE: Fairing Bracket Question

Ok.. heres my theory on why they break....

- My 07 shakes more at idle than my 98 flht did, which didnt break a bracket in 8 yrs & 60K miles
- All of my mounting point screws were lose when the bracket broke. Not sure if they got loosebefore or after the bracket broke
- The new rubber motor mount is too hard & allows the harmonics to travel to the highest point... upper fairing
- The fairing attachment points creates/acts like a fulcrum and the upper section flops around
- Upper bracket is too weak... soft thin material, vibe harmonics takes it toll
- The frame wasnt designed for the stoker 96 motor, thus a relocated front stabilizeron the 08s

Thefix:
1- Install a Buell motor mount # L0501.2, which Ive been told absorbes more vibrations
2- Install larger flat washers at all 8 fairing mounting points to disperse the load more equally
3- Install a new designed bracket

Well... at least its my theory.

Ill get to work on it soon & see what happens. I have a shop that does prototype work for me so the initial cost wont be so bad.

I'll keep ya posted when I have info to share.

In no way am I trying to steal your idea RenoGlide, I just called FBI to see if they have allready have a fix for this. The owner told me they have been talking about it and he is going to basically take a look and see if this can be made at a reasonable cost. They have the tooling and have had issues with bikes before. We'll see..

Egldr05, who is allready doing this on another forum??

had them check for mine when i had tires put on yesterday. both on the left side are broken, upper and lower! they will order them but apparently they made them a bit stronger already I was informed.

think its due to vibration
