Start her up, put on my jacket, gloves and googles. Ease out the neighborhood at 5:30am (just being considerate). Then ride it like I stole it.

I let mine idle for about 30 sec., then "take off," but am easy on the throttle and RPM's 'til oil temperature is at least 150°.

I like for the cylinder heads to be warmer than my fingers before I ride off.

Do what ya want to it's your dollar. Mine doesn't move until the oil stick/temp reads 80 at the push of a little button. Meanwhile I'm all smiles and in love with it as I wipe it off with my clean little wag that stays on the bike.

If you look at the Evo motors and see oil seaping from the gaskets you will think differently! ....
Very true, and few people understand this concept. I warmed up my Evo RK thoroughly before giving it heavy throttle or letting RPM's go too high. It now has 114k and the base gaskets have never been replaced. For that matter, the heads have never been removed on that bike for any reason.

I just start it and wait for the idle to come down, then put outta the drive, 25 MPH zone then to a 40 for several miles before I can really get into it. So it may not sit and idle for 5 minutes, but I don't rev it hard or push it for close to 10 before I get after it.

For me, it's about a minute...I back the bike out of the garage, hit the started, walk around checking headlights, turn signals, and brake lights.

Then, put on my helmet, glasses, gloves, the test the front and rear brakes. Slip it into first and motor away...all about a minute or so.
Same for me. Its enough to get the oil flowing and not too much to **** off the neighbors I usually take it easy for a few miles as well.

1 to 2 minutes while putting gloves and helmet on. HD dealer mechanic recommended 4 to 5 minutes and then start off slow on the revving.

I suspect that most of you who don't warm your motors get a new bike every 1-2 years.

I have an automatic warmup for my Evo chopper. Start it, put gloves on, clutch in at idle, clunk it in gear to break the cold clutch loose, putt up my 1/8 mi of sandy drive to the hardtop, cruise easy into town(5 mi) then it's ready for anything. Haven't had any leaks or blown gaskets in 13 yrs.
