I'm an azzhole, so I rode with my leather jacket unzipped and scratched the **** out of the lid on the left saddlebag with the the belt buckle as it flapped around in the breeze...DUH!!!!
Don't kick the sheet out of the lid with your foot.
Don't let your wife kick the sheet out of it with her foot.
Don't let your cats anywhere around your bike.
Don't place your helmet on the lid when the bike is running.
Don't let your neighbors kid get on the bike becauseFOR SURE they will use the chrome primary as a step.
* Don't hang keys from a side belt loop if the keychain/dongle is long enough to let the keys ride on the lid. Been there, done that as well, including the jacket belt/buckle. Hence when I got my SG last April I took the belt off of my jacket. But hey...a few scratches give a bike character.
When anyone mentions any of the minor scratches or gravel chips I have, I always say something like, "Well, it ain't a show bike...this bike gets ridden a lot, in the real world..."
The first is the worst.
You don't want it to look like a garage queen anyway.
You want it to look like you take care of it yes, but you also want it to look like it's owned by a real biker.
Have a ballride the hell out of it and don't worry about a few battle scars.
