Default saddlebag ideal HELP

so i just picked up a set of bags off e-gay for a total of 300$ and know im thinking i will put the baddad.com 2" extentions on them. heres where it gets interesting, i hate the way the bags open and want to have a clean side with no latch (yes i know the police bags dont have latches but they have way to much hardware on them)Heres a picture of what i want but noway in hell am i goingto pay 1900 bucks for these. i tried to hinge them in the front with some basic gate hinges but there is no way that would work. anybody have an ideal or a place to get some hinges that willwork for this??http://www.gatorboxes.net/images/pages/RockinBO.htm

try modding some hinges to mount on the inside of the front side and maybe just paint over the bolt/screw heads.

Hey mrbuck... that will look good. By way of reminder, the old shovel bags I have are very likely to loose a lid, as many have found out.If you can talk yourself into the painted hinge latch, life will be better, because I find myself forever worrying and checking...even when I know I double checked, and if I did mess up, it will be too late then anyway...

There are dozens if not hundreds of different types of hinges available so if you look you will find just what you need. try a cabinet shop or look at a marine supply store like West Marine, they have all sorts of stainless hinges. No need top go with the OLD style crap that will let your lid fly off, been there and am not going back !! I just installed a medicine cabinet that had some hidden eztending hinges that were trick, no idea where tey came from though. What about a small car door or trunk / hood hinge, they extend outward so the lid will not rub the bag ???

I also played with the idea without success. The problem I had was the outside edge of the HD style cover shape isvertical, then horizontal then vertical again, like a step. This shapecenters the cover and makes the seal to the top edge of the bag.

When you hinge the cover on any side, the cover needs to raise a little, slide back, then lift open. With the "step" edge, a standard hinge can never work because the bottom edge would hitthe outside of the bag before it could be raised enough to gain access to the interior. If you get a chance to look at the old shovelhead removable cover bags, they look nice and clean. They also require the lift, slide, lift action to remove the cover.

I'm not too familiar with marine hinges but Icould not anythingthat could reproduce that motion.
