"I've learned that I have to remove the TPvery soon once the trip is over--if I leave it on the bike I get too used to its convenience--so I make it a point to remove it promptly after the trip."

Amen to that! Very true... that tourpack can become very addicting indeed. So I take it off right away too so as to avoid becoming accustomed to being able to bring home a full sheet of plywood, etc.

I have an ultra also that I will be installing the detachable tour packmount and I would also like to remove the front fender trim. Can anyone tell me if I will need to remove the front wheel in order to remove this trim and the bumper. Also if I pull the side bag rails off what options do I have, replace the bag gaurds with new ones with no holes or can I just go without any?
Thanks for your help.

Its cheaper to remove parts from a ultra than to add touring parts to a street glide

srawden- I took the front bumper off mine and all you have to do it use a long flat blade screwdriver and bend the metal tabs back from the bolts. Take out the bolts, remove the bumper and put the fender bolts back in. It isn't an easy task, but easier than removing the front wheel. Just take your time and if you can get an extra pair of hands it helps.

You can't really remove the trim from the front fender. You could, but it will leave holes and if you remove the skirt it will be too short and have more holes. If you wantthe clean front fender look of the SG or RG or RK Custom, you should really buy a fender like they use on those bikes.
You will need to remove the front wheel to remove the front bumper probably. I've not taken mine off, it was off when I bought the bike , but it seems to me that it would be really tight working in there with the wheel on.

If you have a bike lift, it only takes a minute to pull the front wheel off and it will be way easier to remove the bumper.
That said, lots of times there is more than one right way.

That's what I did to my 07. Removed some some things and added others. Takes about 45 min to go back to a full dresser when needed.

Steve, you need something to support the saddlebag bottoms. On the bikes with a guard in front of the bag, the front of the saddlebag support rail is attached to the guard. For bikes without the guard (SG, RK Custom, RG's), the support rail is visible just to the front of the bottom of the saddlebag as it bends to the frame. You could use the ones you have by removing the guard rails, but you would have holes in the guards where the rails attach.
