Default Long term storage advice

I will be storing my 93 Softail for about a year until my son is able to ride. My question is regarding the fuel tank. Should I leave a full tank of gas in it or drain and use some fogging oil in the tank?

I would drain the tank. If it's stored in a dry environment, I wouldn't fog the tank. If it's carburated, drain the bowl as well. If not, run some fuel stabilizer through it. Drain the engine oil after running it and reinstall fresh for storage. This will reduce or eliminate corrosion due to the acids in used motor oil. Put the battery on a float charger.

That's the big stuff. Lesser things would be cover it, lube the cables/linkages, air up the tires, wash and wax it.

I have always kept it full w. a dash of Stabil. Keeping it full prevents moisture from forming on the inside of the tank. Ever see a gallon of water partially full.....after a while the empty half of the gallon has moisture beads on the inside of the jug.

Buy Stabil
Wash bike clean and pretty
Ride to the gas station
Add proper amount of Stabil per instructions
Fill tank
Ride home
Dump engine oil and filter (if the primary and tranny are getting up in miles, dump them too)
Put in the new oil
Run engine for a minute to pump clean oil thru the galleries and bearings, etc.
Take plugs out, and put 1 table spoon fresh oil into each cylinder
Put bike in high gear, and rotate rear tire in normal direction to coat cylinder insides with oil (or roll bike forward in high gear)
Put plugs back in
Coat clean rags with oil, stuff oily rags into air intake and each muffler exit (varmints won't chew thru oil soaked rags to take up residence inside the bike)
Air up the tires
Put on battery tender

I store mine every other year fora year this way. Come home Fire it up go straight to oil change joint, or if you change at home ride it for a couple miles to get it hot. Then change it
