I read these forums more now than ever as the snow in Canada seems to have effected how often I am out for a scoot. I have an 05 ultra and have done zero for mods. I read on and on about SERTS and PC and so on..What is the true theory for this situation, is my ride not well left stock. Is it lean, running hot, starving for something, missing something aside from louder. How will it effect anything by not tossing a hunk of cash into my ride, or am I all good if I choose just to leave it the way it is. I do ride 2 up so likely am missing some power but for now can live with it the way it is as far as that goes. The main question is any harm being done..Is there anything I should do now to make things better and not have to toss coin at the black beast..Not being cheap, just have other items on the go that also have a price tag on it..OKAY you are right..Wife wants a wet bar and wine room finished..
You can run it as is from the factory if you wish, but it is running lean and hotter than it has to which breaks the oil down sooner also. A simple device like the TFI installed by you and easily set up with no other mods will improve the running and give you a little more power along with smoother running and somewhat cooler temps too. You can add mufflers and intake and just readjust the TFI in the future to compensate for the improvements.
TFI...SERT...PC....I am in Canada..I know I can get the Harley SERT...Which is most bang for the buck and easiest for the average to use, install and so on..Will it handle all the possible upgrades later in life...How does a person know if what he has changed is good or bad, short of lettin the dealer at it..Also what happens to that part..WARRANTY..I paid for extended..Now what.
Short of worrying yourself to death, easiest thing for you would be the TFI. You can remove it without a trace for warrantee work, that's assuming you want to do it yourself. The other fuel programmers require more finesse to set them up and the TFI can also richen things up as you do upgrades but is limited in areas like ignition changes.
Tha SERT will handle anything you can throw at it later and now also. Without a dyno tune to properly set up the SERT ans the PCIII, you can dial it in somewhat if you have computer skills and a working knowledge of the EFI system. That's why I recommend the TFI for motors that will not be punched up in power large amounts. Ease of installation and set up and they work well.
Anyone know if can be found in Canada...Also while asking that, anyone live in Calgary that knows about these fellers..Always nice to have a plan B if ya run into any issues if ya know what I mean...I work for a trucking company so can at times get a driver to sneak it past you know who..But it would help to have a location nailed down..Very often in Portland Oregon..Anyone know if someone sells there...Who makes them again.
