I also have the HD Competition jacket and really like it. I got in new on e-bay and saved about $150. I have seen the Fox creek up close and personal....well made no doubt.
Unfortunately it boils down to you trying it on to see which fits you better and which you want to spend your hard earned cash on. Good luck.
Pine Tree -- I contacted Fox Creek regarding your comments aboveabout U.S.leather processing. This is their response:
[blockquote]
"Thanks for contacting us regarding this issue. Our leathers are chrome tanned and drum dyed by the leather supplier. We prefer this method because the leather is completely saturated and colored throughout. It is not uncommon for leather dye to âbleedâ especially if the item is not dyed with the drum-dye process.
As for Pakistan making the Harley Jackets, we have customers who show us the jackets and their are tags in them that say "Made in China". The leather is very thin and "shiny", over processed and the quality is not near as nice." [/blockquote]
Therefore, Fox Creek leathers are processed in the preferable manner.
Thanks for contacting Fox Creek...
I have a vest by Fox Creek...its black finish will rub thru and show an almost "silver" color under the surface. I also have a vest made in Pakistan from Barney's Leather in Daytona Beach. This finish seems to be dyed thru and does not rub off showing a lighter color below.
Ironically, I have a Brooks (of Detroit, MI) leather jacket that's more then 30 years old and still in excellent condition. I cannot find a label stating where it was made.
Bleeding is a completely different topic and I have not found a single dyed leather item that won't bleed when wet.
I own both HD a FC leather wear. Both are nice, but I really llike the Fox Creek stuff. Its great quality and craftsmanship, good customer service and made in the good ol' USA.
I really like the HD FXRG jacket with the liner options.
Fox Creek doesn't have anything like that.
Agree totally the FXRG is probablythe best riding jacket I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few. These days leather is about style and HD has some nice style but for real riding, synthetic with vents, mesh and body armor makes the most sense.
I got a classic II 3 years back and it is holding up really well. Very comfortable, Very warm (especially with a wind bloc fleece under it. Can go down to mid 30's with no problem) With the vents its comfortable up into the 80's as long as you are moving. It fits really well. Beleive Fox creek also has a great return policy.
I also have the chaps (heavy duty) and gaunlet gloves. It's all great stuff.
IMHO the price point for FC products makes themthe best leather value on the market today.

FWIW I am fortunate enough to live about 5 hours from their retail store in Independence Va and swing by every year to get something new.If you ever ride the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is worth the detour to visit. Heard they opened up a retail store in downtown Independence, but the old barn was a wonderful place.
