Get a Panasonic Tough Book. If an elephant can stand on them, they can take the beating of riding along in a tour pak.[sm=type.gif]

I carry my laptop in my tourpak when I take week long trips. My only advice is to use a good, thickly padded case.

For almost twenty years now, Hard drive manufacturers and windows has included in
the windows program a automatic head parking and locking system.
What this does is move the hard drive read / write heads to a safe unused portion on the
hard drive and sets head down.
This prevents heads from bouncing around and scratching the drive surface and ruining
saved data.
But as above, either carry it in a padded case or tuck it inbetween the clothes in the tour pack.

During decent riding months, I carry my laptop to/from work every day on my evo softail. No special bags, packing, nothing. No problems at all.

One clarification to an earlier post - "some" new laptops "can" be equipped with solid state hard drives. However, they are still very very rare, expensive, and have far lower storage capacity. More importantly, they are not required so long as the laptop is not powered on while riding.

Actually, heat and packing the laptop too tightly are more likely to cause damage.

Commute daily and just throw it in the tour pak in the case. Did the same on my Deluxe...have yet to kill one due to the vibration on the bike. Like everyone else said just be sureit's powered down.
