Busted "Speeding Ticket"
I have to travel for work occasionally and I like to drive at night. It's cool and there is no traffic.
I left the house in Albuquerque at about 3 o'clock one morning heading south to El Paso, TX. As I left the city I was passed by a Sheriff's patrol car from Sandoval County. Sandoval County is one county north of the county we are currently in. He is running 95 to 100 mph. No lights. No Sirens. I speed up and follow him about a quarter to a half a mile back. We cruise along into the next county, Valencia, for about 40 miles. He slows down to about 60 before the 2nd Belen exit. I figure he is going to exit so I slow down to 75 which is the speed limit and pass him. He speeds up and follows me for a mile or so and then pulls me over. He asks for my license, registration and insurance papers. I reply that I would be happy to comply with his request but I would like to see his County Sheriff's commission card. He asked me why I was going so fast. I asked him why he was going so fast. He said he was transporting a prisoner to prison. I stated that the he had passed the prison about 20 miles back in Los Lunas and asked if his superiors were aware that he was transporting prisoners, to a nonexistant prison, at 100 mph, at 3 in the morning. He had no answer for that. He showed me his commission card. It was from Sandoval County. Now my wife is sitting in the passenger seat, shitting a brick, thinking that I am about to get a trip to the Crossbar Motel. I look at his card and ask him what authority does this give you in Valencia County. He says he has all the authority he needs and he is going back to his car to get his ticket book to write me up. He goes back to his car. He gets in, makes a u turn and hauls *** away. Now my wife is laughing her *** off. I wonder how many other times he has pulled this kind stunt. What an arrogant ***-hole. It's ok for him to break the law but not anyone else.
If I get written up for speeding or whatever, by proper cop, in his jurisdiction, I will be polite, accept the ticket and either pay the fine or deal with it in the court system.
I have been a cop for 20 years and onething that I hate is when someone passes me while I am in a marked police car. Weather I am going above the speed limit or not. It showsno respect for authoritywhen you do that. Also ifthedeputy was speeding, what gives you the right to speed right along with him? Answer is none.In WA State, it doesn't matter what countyI am in. If I am driving a marked police vehicle, I can pull someone over if need be. All I do is contact the WA State Patrol in thatarea and use their citation.
If I was that Deputy, I would have written you a ticket and then contacted my supervisor and told them that I was speeding and took my lumps.World has enough smart asses in it.
Hmmm, I wonder how he might have taken a comment like, "Speed is a relative term... As the earth is going millions of miles an hour around the sun, is my speed really that important compared to yours, officer? I mean what's a few miles per hour compared with that?"
Awe, your probably right... It's lame and will just excite the old boy. But sure puts things in perspective. Speed does not kill, Differential speed does.

Just plain ludacris, the need for ludacris speed......
Should be a law against that.
I just smiled [sm=smiley4.gif]

In my state he had no authority to write a ticket in the county he was in.
If he wanted to call the state police that's ok but I had no obligation to wait till they came.
If he had written me a ticket I would have told him to shove it.
The world has way to many cops who think the law doesn't apply to them.
You don't get respect just because you are a cop. You have to earn it, just like everybody else.

of course its legal here ta throw a dozen kids in the back of your pickup but they'll cite the driver for not wearing a seatbelt. (oh, and while the kids are legal they'll pull ya over if your dog is back there and not tethered)
