Default SG Fairing Question - Avoiding Chips

I'm going to be taking delivery of a black pearl SG in May. Like most of us on this forum, I'm fanatical about taking care of my things. Do you folks find that the fairing design on the SG's are prone to chips from rock and other flying debris?

I guess better the fairing than my face. I use a bra when I do road trips and sometimes just day to day riding. My fairing looks like next to new. 15,000 miles

I've got about 18000 on my bike and don't have any chips in the fairing, but the fairing doesn't look as good as it did when it was new. Just the usual wear and tear from being ridden, collecting bugs and other road debris, and the constant battle of trying to keep it clean. It looks a little worn, but I kinda like it having that "been ridden" look. I think if you want it to always look new, you might consider a bra. IMO, I'd rather look at the fairing and any blemishes I might get from riding rather than looking at a bra. I guess I'd rather go "bra-less"! Just my .02

Buy that Profinish kit and be done with it.

The fairing on your bike is going to catch a little bit of everything and chances are you may get it sandblasted or a chip or two. When I am taking a long trip where I know I'll be in the elements all day and for lots of days straight I do install my HD fairing bra and it really protects the fairing. It fits snug with no flapping and has a nice fleece backing and does NOT scratch the paint.

I keep my bike as nice and clean as I can. However, I bought it to ride and thats what I do. Chips and wear and tear stuff is going to happen. I guess you could keep it perfect by leaving it in the garage under the cover... But thats no fun

Meguire's 3-step works pretty good too.
