Hey all, I bought some new Wild1 502's for my Road King, just extended the wiring and was about finally and very excitingly mount the new bars and noticed a lable at the base of the bars that states. " must use a single clamp for mounting bars and not the two clamps" Now I am wondering if this is completely necessary and why Wild 1 didn't tell me that when i purchased them...
Just looking for some advice. I will purchase it if is really necessary.
They jsut mean a sisngle top clamp. You can get 'em at the stealer for pretty cheap. I'd imagine you might be alright to ride there with the doubles and change it there but I also figure the warning is there for a reason. Partly to protect the makers of the bars, and partly to protect you.
I just ordered my 515's 10" apes... I talked to both Jeff and John and neither mentioned it... Please let us know. Chicago Harley says that my bars will be here Monday or Tuesday.
issue is that the wild1's (esp the longer/bigger/higher) can put much more torque/strain on the clamp area and the dual does not hold as well - you may get by with the stock ones but it really is not worth the risk - esp with those 10" apes.... I just got a used clamp for mine - its hidden anyway...

Its not the holding power but the fact that with a hole cut out for wires the 2 risers need to be tied together or the bars will break starting at the hole from the side loading that they get when everyboby uses their new tall apes to pick the bike up off the kickstand! I've seen lots of them break including my old Road King!
BTW the one piece clamp is stock on '08's, or you can use the cheap plain chrome one from the P&A catalog part # 56170-83TA. With tall apes, on Road Kings,we usually drill and tap some set screws on top of the clamp to help hold the bars tight.

Aha! I apreciate the comments. When I ordered, I told wild1s I have a 2008... They did not mention I needed a new top clamp. And my search of the HD.com I used the 2008 Touring and got nothing. Makes sense...
Learned many years ago the HD OEM Handlebar Clamps are POS ... As long as your changing the handlebars - get a one new upper clamp cost around $20.00 but it will hold your chubbies better...
If you ask they will come.. and you guys always do. thank alot for the information, I will call my local HD dealer this morning and see if they have on in stock. So to be clear the two seperate bottom peices of the riser do not need to be replaced??
Mustbebrent: so you are good to go my friend with yournew shiny new 08 model.. If you are doing the bars yourself ask away in here these guys have been awesome in helping me out. I am about half way done. this weekend will be the break line and clutch cable eeeek!!!! so I am sure you will see me in here alot this weekend looking for assistance..
It wasn't till HogDoc got on that I realized he was talking about the top clamp only. There are 2 bottom clamps to attach to on mine.
I had started taking mine apart to get to know what the pieces look like and be ready for when my bars and chrome switch housings and grip arrived... but now they won't be here till Tuesday, so I put it all back together last night to go riding today and tomorrow...
I guess I will rip it apart Sunday to be ready for the parts on Tuesday...
Some of the guys at work are doing a ride to Big Bend National park at the end of the month and I NEED to have this done to make that ride or my back will be screaming at me...
I am going to attempt to leave the stock brake and clutch lines "stretched" for this ride and let the dealership do them when i return.
