Does anyone know why the 91843-97 Supplementary 12V Power Source won't fit a Road King Classic FLHRC? I bought the kit and then read the "General" section which indicates this no-fit.
I went through this with a customer awhile back who asked the same thing. We ended up researching it on the showroom floor and figured it out, but I can't remember why. He ended up taking the item and made it work for him.
I bought this same part and made it work on my RKC. I didn't mount the socket on the side panel as they suggested. I clipped the connector off the end because I already was using my switchable aux power connector for something else.I installed some lugs on the 2 wires and connected it directly to the battery terminals. I hid the socket behind the left side panel and wire tied it to a frame tube. Works just fine for my TomTom GPS.
1.) A battery tender or heated gear harness on your battery.
2.) A lighter socket extension....It has a socket on one end and a socket plug on the other. Cut the plug off and replace it with a plug that fits the harness on the battery.
You can plug in and then drop the socket in a bag or put it in your pocket.
Thanks to all for the replies. I'm older than dirt but new at this forum thing so I hope this reply works.
I like the idea of mounting it under the side cover. I have a Powerlet on the bars for my GPS (acutally an HP iPAQ with Tom-Tom GPS) and it does most of what I need but I have to use an adapter for anything that requires a "cigarette lighter" cord.
