Thanks for all the replies, I ordered my Odessy yesterday, should be here end of next week. Go figure that it is supposed to be above freezing here beginning of next week. Incidentally for the flht they recommend their metal wrapped battery. Apparently it is better dealing with any heat issues. Heres hoping
What model did you get?

Where did you buy from, and how much?

I've been looking at this one - http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc925lmj.htm

I would be looking at what else maybe wrong My HD battiers last 4 to 5 years and work fine.
No madder who'sname is onthem there are top shelf battiers those in the middle and walmart.
My FB is a carb model and it is a hard starter on 30 degree days... it is a 96 and is just on the third battery first two lasted just over 5 years each.
I do use a battery tender NOT a charger if the bikes sits for more than a couple weeks.
Over charging a battery will kill it.
There is a difference between a good brand tender and a cheap charger.

Heres the link to their application chart http://www.odysseyfactory.com/docume...G-002_0905.pdf The mj stands for metal jacket and it is only recommended for a few. Suppose to deal with heat better. For those who said about using a factory battery this is cheaper.

So I'm going to assume that you did go with this one - http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc925lmj.htm ?

And you said you found it cheaper then the factory battery, where?

This is one situation where you can't go wrong with an OEM battery. HAve one on my RG..5 years old. Use a trickle charger year round. Going to replace it only because it's 5 years old.

The trick to battery longevity is a trickle charger, especially on a bike equipped with an alarm system.

BTW, have put 40,000 miles on this battery. It's not the age, it's the duty cycles. Have heard of batterys in low milage bikes (on a trickle charger) lasting 7 plus years.

Unless you have very high compression, such as that of a 103ci, stick with stock.

Out of curiosity, what is the cost of the Oddessy?

Oddesy here in Canada at Total battery in barrie is 120, Stealer wants 135. Local auto parts place quoted 140 for a lead/acid. If the moco has changed suppliers in the last few years what makes you guys think that the new supplier will be as good as your battery from 5 years ago.I could follow your point better if you actually said the Exide or Yuasa.
