Default Setup question - rich?

Wondering if anyone out there has a similar setup to mine, I seem to be running a bit rich . I have a 2006 Road King Classic, Rinehart true duals, Power Commander III USB, and SE air cleaner (with K&N filter). I am running the appropriate map from the Power Commander web site. I am getting some soot between the pipes and end caps, and a fair amount of decel popping through the pipes. I posted this question on the engine/intake/exhaust forum, and they suggested I try here as well. Any comments? Thanks in advance.

Pull your spark plugs and take a look at them. If they are sooty, you certainly are running too rich. I run a SERT with a map that was built when I had it dyno'd and the mixture is right on. No poooing, nosoot, not too lean and it really helped the heat issue since it is richer than what HD sent out stock in the '07s.

I recently removed a PCIII in favor of a SERT. When I did that, I had it dynoed with the PCIII first and then again after the SERT. I too was using a Dynojet map. Funny thing . . . I had the same conditions as you describe but I found out from the dyno that my bike was actually running LEAN not rich. The PCIII had it running between 14:1 and 15:1. The SERT brought it down to 13:1. Bike runs much better now and I suspect that it will run cooler although the hot weather isn't here yet.

Bottom line is this . . . You won't know FOR SURE what is going on with your AFR unless you have a dyno done. Sure, you can look at your plugs but it is very difficult to tell anything. Your bike could be running rich at the low end and lean in the cruising zone.

Also, most of the PCIII maps are basic maps, not advanced. An advanced map tunes each cylinder separately. I believe they should be tuned that way since the rear cylinder runs hotter than the front.

These are just my opinions (and I have many). I may be FOS. Anyone else add anything?
Steve
