Seems like you and I are pretty close in height. I have a 31" inseem as well. I tilt/push the bars forward during the summer months, but I have to pull them back in line with the forks to use the windshield during the winter. Other than that, I never ride witha shield. Having the bars in line is a bit less comfortable, but not terribly.
This is with the shield. You can see that I can (and did) push the bars a bit more forward and it will work. You can also get a lower height shield (like on a SERK).
This is usually where I keep the bars aligned. I do like to push them a bit more, when I am feeling more aggressive. lol
I have decided to go with 16" apes on my 2007 FLHR. I am looking to see if any of you have advice on which brand to go with. I have heard good things about Cyclesmiths, and Chubbies always seem to be popular.
Looking through my J&P catalog, bars from Buff and Burly also look nice, but the pullbacks range for 8.5" for the J&P to 12.5" for the Chubbies.
Can anyone elaborate on their experience with these specific bars? I am 6'2" and am concerned about the different pullbacks. I know there have been a lot of picture threads of apehangers, but if anyone can post a picture of themselves on their bikes with apes and detail their height I am hoping that it would give a good reference for people looking for bar changes that may not be able to try them out first.
Wild Ones are a bit more, but worth it. I have tried many bars and think the Wild ones are the best for comfort. They have their stuff together and their dimensions work well.
As far as looks, I love my new Gimp Hangers from Nash!
16s burly gorilla bars there fn awsome 3400 miles no shoulder sorness like people think... there the same measurments as chubbys but a little cheaper... if i had it to do over i would get 18s. hope this helps.........oh yea im 6'2 also
where u buy them bars they look great i got same bike
As you select your bars, make sure the tip to tip dimension works for you. I once got a set of mini-apes not realizing the tip to tip dimension was about 4+" wider than stock. They were a handfull for me and I had to change them out. Lots of money down the drain.
I love my Chubbies. They have held up well over the years. I was looking at Carlini back then too. They have nice looking stuff. But I ended up with Wild Ones. Good luck with your search.
