You mentioned that you have to take the tank off, is it the gas tank?
Does the tank need to be off to install the air cleaner or Harley Super Pro Tuner?
I believe you need to take it off to get to the ECU.
Dave
Actually the ECM is under the front part of the seat but that doesnt matter. All you need to get too is the data port. The data port on 08 S/G is behind the left side cover. If look just below the fuse block there is a gray plastic connector, it is perfectly square and has a plug in the end of it. It slides off its clip away from the fuse block and plugs into your tuner cables.
Somehow I knew I was wrong about the location of the ECU. Sorry!!
Does this fix the "too lean" problem? Or does it still run lean to keep the bike up to par with the emission stuff? What was the cost? How may canned maps does it have? Sorry for all the combined questions.
Yes it fixed the lean problem. All the race tuners, including the new pro-tuner are not EPA compliant. I didnt count the files but theres a ***** load. It has files fordifferent model Harleys, different years, with different componets, different engine sizes stock, and many for after market engine biulds, all different sizes. The part number is 32109-08. Its $439.96 at Chicago Harley. The cables and instructional dvd are extra. But the dvd is back ordered.
Shoe, try Chicago Harley. It took them only 2 weeks to get it from the factory.
I sent Zanotti's an email asking them how long. I mentioned that other dealerships have been getting them in for weeks. Hopefully they will get back to me soon (tomorrow). They are normally really good. I still wonder why they have them listed as being on backorder. I was always under the impression that all the dealers use the same electronic parts catalog.
I have no idea. Maybe one of the motorheadsgenius's will say. I do know that this tuner does a bunch of ***** the older tuner wont do, like record the operation for approx. 15 minutes of riding, it does the 3d graphs and stuff if you are into super fine tuning but I didnt need any of that. Hell, I would have been fine with the regular race tuner for what I need it for, you just cant get the freakin software fo it any more. Thats why I wound up getting the pro-tuner. It does all kind of stuff I will probably never use.
I guess I was too excited when I wrote this and did not write clear. I took the tank off to install the stage 1 S.E air cleaner kit. For this filter and backplate, you have to remove and discard the throttle body bracket. It has two screws that can only be reached by taking the gas tank off the bike.
Hmm, I didn't have to remove the tank to install the SE A/C, just used an allen wrench to remove the bracket screws. That said, it is really easy to remove the '08 tank since they eliminated the crossover line.

That sucks, I guess I should have looked a little more carefully at those screws. I followed the instructions which said to remove the tank, (go figure) Oh well, its good to know your bike. Now I know how easy it is to remove the tank.
