macdonald has it right
there is a modest (and good) sound increase going to true duals without changing slip-ons.
The biggest increase in sound comes from adding different slip-ons which is almost always done with the addition of true dual headers.
I had SE slip-ons with the stock headers, nice rumble. Added V & H true dual headers, kept the SE slip-ons, and got a much better sound
I sure hope that you're wrong... i.e. they don't get louder. I just bought a set of V & H's that are going on today. It's already too loud for my liking. So far, I haven't found any mufflers yet (duals only) that have a mellow sound and don't kill power. I was hoping that this would be the answer
Try the Peacemakers, OEMor the Screamin Eagle slip-ons. They will tune it down.
Just wondering from your experiences, do true dual headers increase or change the sound or volume of quiete mufflers.

Not sure which true duals you are going with. But I installed the V/H Big Shots with quiet baffles. Obviously they were louder then the stock. Dont know what the standard baffles sound like. V/H claim that the quiet baffles will lower the sound by 5db. This system is loud enough when you crack it open but not too loud. As everyone else has said, it is stero music to your ears.
A while ago, I was running Wild Pigs mufflers on the stock head pipes..........got used to that sound and liked it. I then put on true dual head pipes, and the sound got much louder and was in stereo now. So from that comparison, the sound got much louder and took on a different tone also.
But, when I was running the Rinehart TD's.........most of my riding buddies said they were too quiet. But one I did my motor build, I had to get rid of them due to the noise/tone of them.
Couldn't agree more " maineultraclassic", did the exact same mods, love the sound with true duels and wild pigs w/2"baffles, that potato, potato, potato sound
Thanks very much for your input here. It has certainly helped in my decision.
I will let you know when i do the changes whe i get home in July (Iraq athe minute). I cant wait to see, hear and feel the difference.
