My '02 FLHT has done the same thing since new. It seems to get a little louder as they heat up as well. The noise is exactly as you describe it, AZRoadKing. I thought I would get used to it, but after 7.5k miles, it still annoys the crap out of me. I should have gotten the FLHTC-maybe the radio would drown it out....or louder pipes.....Hmmm
Aftermarket pads and floating rotors cures it everytime
One of the first things I do with a new bike is put the floating rotors on. It's a performance issue.
The stock pads work fine. You'll get much better braking, less noise, & less wear & tear on the brake pads...
Anybody have front brake pads that sound like a "flock of locusts"??? Happens on my 05 Ultra - stealership said it is normal breakin - at 4000 miles??? Serviced as directed.
Funny, a couple years back, my Suzuki Intruder 1500LC had the EXACT same sound??? Metric dealer could never resolve.
Not really a squeal, more of a constant fast crickett like sound. Familiar???
Maybe I just need to spray the sh%^ out of it with WD-40
Same problem on mine --- plus a brake squeal from hell. Have tried burnin them in, still screaming. Any for sure fixes on the squeal yet???
06 Street Glide - 1360 miles
When I went in for my 1000 mile service I mentioned the front brake squeel. Thye tried a fix that HD recommended but it didn't go away, so they changed the rotors. Squeel is gone and I don't notice the whish, whish, whish sound anymore.
My front brakes squealed pretty bad on my '06 Street Glide and then at the 1K service the tech said there was also quite a bit of drag when he spun the tire on the lift. He re-positioned the front fork on the axle according to Harley's spec and both the dragging and the squealing went away. With the forks off kilter, the pads end up being torqued in an awkward way and this causes the dragging for sure and the squealing maybe. The tech said this was a pretty common problem on new bikes.
