It charges the iPod at the same time as sending the FM signal thru the radio. They have one now that autmatically looks for a clean/clear channel.
With mine, you have to use one of the 8 presets on the Monster Cable unit and match it to a clean channel on the radio. It works well. Sound is pretty good too.
I run the cable up theleft side bar and put the iPod in my pocket. When the wife is with me, she plugs in the earbuds and listens thru those while I use the bike speakers and control the volume.
This summer, I'm putting another 12V source on the bike (probably under the tour pak) and will plug the unit in there and just tuck the iPod in somewhere else, or pot the 12V source in the fairing ad put the iPod in a windshield bag.
I got a holder from gilsbro and a cable from Radio Shack and put the nano holder on throttle side so the cable comes out of radio into fairing tucked away and then up handle bar to nana holder very little cable showing. I can also change songs with my thumb!
