I bought it on mine, much less than $1500.00, but it's just for big items ( in my mind anyway ) as no one but myself will be working on my bike if I can help it. If you plan on keeping it for a while, or just want to retain a better resale value...it's a good idea.

Most people don't get value out of that kind of coin. Especially if you plan to hop up your engine and make lots of mods. But if you plan to ride big miles 25k plus a year, might be something to consider. As for piece of mind you can rent some very nice playthings for $1500 make you feel good to.

I have purchased the warranty in the past but always ended up cashing it in. I have used the tire & wheel damage policy a few times, get a nail in the tube and its nice to have the coverage. I seem to pick up nails quite a bit[:@] and feel its worth the $300.

Don't let the dealer stiff you on a higher APR if you elect not to take the warranty, as in many places it is against the law to do so, plus the lower rate will not offset the cost of a $1500 warranty on a 5 year loan.

I like to buy and sell a good bit, get most of my joy out of building a bike, so usually get the urge to start over fairly quickly, the 2 year warranty works for me and on my SG got 2.5 years at no extra cost for buying during the winter.

Don't waste your money!
Every time you take the bike to the Stealer they just tell you, "don't worry, it's normal, it's a Harley!" There are better ways to put $1500 into your bike.

I have bought the extended warranty with all 4 Harleys I have bought, And used it on the first 3!!! My new one is too new to use it thus far. For the going shop rates now days, $1500 bucks would be 3 days in the shop if you had a big problem, not to mention parts. There is a chance you may never need it, but there is also a chance it could really save your hide some day. Your already gonna spend near $20,000, Whats another $1,500?

It's really only a 5 year extended warranty + the original 2 years = 7 years. That was the price I was quoted a little over a week ago when I bought my RK Standard but I turned it down. You can buy the extended warranty anytime until your 2 year warranty runs out, but I was told it would cost 30% more to do it after the time of sale. Don't know if this is true or not but I don't like being forced into any of this at the time of sale crap. It only a way to extort more money out of you after they have already robbed you.

I personally wouldn't bother wasting the money. especially if you plan on any motor modding later on.

I agree. The price on the warranty is negotiable just like the price of the bike but it depends on how much your dealer will work with you.

When I made my purchase (June 2005) and when my son made his new bike purchase (April 2004) there was a lower interest rate offered with the exteneded warranty. In my son's case when you figured the difference in the fianancing he ended up getting the extended warranty (7 year) for about an additional $150. I told him that was about impossible to pass up.
