Need your help please. The only way I can justify the $ for the Zumo is to use it on multiple vehicles. I've narrowed it down to the 550 for a GPS but I'm trying to decide if the XM radio is worth it. Nearly $200 seems like a lot for the XM antenna.
1. Where do you attach it on your bike?
2. Is it quickly removable to transfer to different vehicles?
3. Is there a choice between XM and Sirius?
To answer your questions here goes.... I attached my xm receiver to the existing cradle that the gps sits in. I made a plate and bent it and drilled holes to make it fit. It is not easy to remove. But here is the thing when you buy your zumo 550 it comes with two cradles but the one for the car or truck doesnt have the capability to have xm radio hooked up to it. If you can find a way to mount the cradle that you put on your bike then you need to find a way to mount the xm receiver too. You only get xm or sirius you dont get both. It depends on which one you subscibe to. I hope this helps.
1. Where do you attach it on your bike?
Go to here: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/get the XM antenna mount, it mounts to the rear of the MC cradle, works great and you can move it from bike to bike. I've been looking at the dash pads for the car, this would allow me to use the MC mount and the XM antenna as one package. Also the suction mount leaves a mark on the windshield, unsightly and thieves are now looking for these marks, telling them that the owner uses a GPS and may have left in the vehicle, then break into the vehicle looking for the unit. Also, some states prohibit using windshield mounts (CA) 2. Is it quickly removable to transfer to different vehicles?
Again, yes but depends on which mount you use and how you wire it. In a cage, use the cig plug, on the bike, I modified the hard wire with a quick disconnect plug that allows me to move it from bike to bike as one unit. I posted my mounting on the EGC with the wiring, either search under my name or I can send it to you. 3. Is there a choice between XM and Sirius? No, the XM antenna is really the XM receiver, the Zumo is just the vehicle that allows you to process the XM signal and view the information. If you go with this setup, go ahead and get XM traffic and weather, only 3.00 more and it's a nice feature.
As for the GXM antenna price, check on eBay and the Zumo forum, you can sometimes save some money. I was able to pick mine up for half price used.....
