The docking hardware instructions are pretty bad. I printed up some I found here on the forum and took them into the shop with me. Had to make copies for a couple friends there. Huge improvement over the H-D version. I remember back when I did my first dock install, one of the guys who has been there a long time walked over and said something like: "just look at the pictures, you try to follow the instructions as they are written, you'll probably end up shooting somebody".

I still get a chuckle everytime I read about someone trying to put on the docking hardware....the instructions are pretty much useless. This is one of the first things that a new HD owner may try for themselves and the frustration factor can be a nine on a scale of one to ten
I think you're more right than you claim. If a newb tries the most common immediate add-on and can't figure it out, then service gets more work since some newbs may also say "WTH, it's too hard to mod my scoot myself. I'll just take it to service from now on".Frustration factor may be fine for MOCO.

I agree.

I just added a set of heated grips to my 08 EG. There was way too much detail in the handle bar forward instuctions and no detail in the electrical connections below the seat. I think that the electrical section was written by a summer coop student with a hang over.

If the opportunity presents itself again in the future, heated grips will be part of the purchase agreement.

re: '08 heated grips... you are right about the electrical part lacking; they didn't even mention that the thing had to go to the chassis ground - and how about some detail on how to install the fuse receptacle. I am not so sure I would trust a stealer to install it - there were so many places to go wrong I would rather do it myself to make sure it is done right.

I pop a vessel in my head every time i buy a new part. I am a computer aided drafting designer by trade. I look at the instructions and just say these guys SUCK! they should be paying me to put these instructions together.

+1 ^^^^

I did the same damn thing with the docking kit. What a PITA it was. I couldn't believe how horrible the directions were. In addition, the process of aligning everything and having to pull up on the fender to get a pair of holes to line up was just stupid! When I got done, I thought "welcome to the world of Harley-Davidson".... we're not in Japan anymore Toto!

Now, I just look at the parts view and figure out the install myself.
