Just bought a new ultra and as you know it comes with a headset for one helmet if you were going to buy another set for your pasenger would you get the HD set to match the one that came with the bike or get JML your another brand. does one sound better than the other when listening to music and communicating with your passenger or are they pretty much the same.
Get a J&M....IMHO much better than the HD headset and the way the cords plug into the helmet is much better. I have 2 J&M headsets, 3/4 helmet and in a FF modular....my wife has the HD headset in her FF modular.
+1 on the J&M - an' their new mic system is killer! Got mine 'bout a year ago ta evaluate, an' the difference between it an' the original one is night an' day - an' the original rig was way better than the OEM one, so...
The HD headphones on my 08 Ultra had lots of static and poor sound quality. Replaced them with top grad J&M, which are much better. Go J&M and you will be happy.
Ultraman, I too have two of the Harley headsets. Just make sure you get the VOX adjusted right. Mine had a lot of static and wind noise until I kept adjusting the VOX up and down till I got it just right. I've got them now where they are fine, no static or noise. They are working fine for us.
Ya gotta remember that the headset mounts have to be able to break away in an accident, so they're made in a way most of us would consider "flimsy". Havin' put 200k on bikes with headsets, ah kin tell ya that they're a lot tougher'n they look!<G>
Have not had any trouble with the mounting system. You just have to work the clamp a bit to get it on the edge of the helmet just right and then tighten the allen screw down We have not had any problems with them coming loose so far.
