Quick one......at my brothers today and taking his bike out of storage and his battery tender died which means his battery was dead. He bought a new slow charger tender and has had it running for 24 hours and it's still not a green light. Here's the question, will a battery tender charge a dead battery or does he need it on an actual charger? Not sure if there is a difference between the two or if he just needs to give it more time.
A tender is intended to maintain a battery however it will charge one. It just won't charge at the rate of a standard charger. Leave the battery and charger sit for a few days.
I have a bike in the garage that took over a week before it came back to full charge on a tender. I had nothing to loose so I just left it on the tender than one day I noticed the light was green.
Just opened my H-D battery instructions, and it states:
12 Ah battery with a 0.00% of prexisting charge would take 4hrs. 30mins. with a 3 amp charger to top it off.
19 Ah battery with a 0.00% of prexisting charge would take 7hrs.with a 3 amp charger to top it off.
26 Ah battery with a 0.00% of prexisting charge would take 10hrs.with a 3 amp charger to top it off.
Depending upon your amprage rating of your charger, this would vary some. I would take the battery out bring to a auto shop and have it tested. Good possiablity that its internally shorted. Then would never charge. It could have taken out the previous charger.
