its pretty usless it only works when your already way too hot then it cuts out everytime u blurp the throttle so in stop and go traffic it doesnt do much
I know I have this feature on my 08, I am just not sure why. Can you tell me when I would use this ?
Short name for it, as most know it, is "Parade Mode"
It's to help the bike from over heating when your stuck in traffic or in a parade or even some rallies where your not really moving. It shuts off fuel and spark to the rear cylinder. The rear cylinder ( which is hotter anyway ) then turns into an air pump, thus cooling off the bike and keeps it from over heating. Easier on the rider as well.
It only works at idle. The bike will sound different and smell different. Enable it and let it idle in your garage or driveway for 15 mins. or more. Burp the throttle and it'll kick out. Another 2 mins and it'll activate again.
It's been around since 03/04. I'm surprised how many people have never heard about it? I guess because now the later 08's put it in the owners hands? Before that it had to be done at the dealer and it was a one shot deal. It was either activated or not. You got one chance.
I don't mind it and I'll more than likely leave it engaged.
When it kicks in does it change the way the bike sounds?
Yes and you'll notice a different smell as well. The bike will sound like it dropped 100 rpm and burble. Idle a little rougher. It's kind of hard to describe, but when it happens, you'll know.
I bought mine in Jan. but it didn't work. I've read somewhere, that it Does NOT make the bike run cooler, but just makes the front jug do the work so there is less heat on the rider.

That's because your on a softtail without TBW. Yours has to be enabled by the dealer. You haven't got cruise so no turning it off an on by yourself. I'm not sure where your info is from, but it also richen's up the front cylinder as well. Pull it away from it normal AFR of 14.7 and drop it to a more richer setting which will cool the motor down. Just like on start up.
On the newer Owners manuel for the RG, it's on page 140.
Engine idle temperature management System
It's on the touring bikes built after Nov. 07. Check it out. It works, I've tried it. If you haven't got it, they may be able to up date your ECM so you can do it yourself.
Basically this is the procedure.
Turn the bike to the on position. Kill switch as wellon.Make sure the cruise is off. Don't start the bike.
Roll the throttle to the closed (off) position and hold it there for about 3 seconds.
The cruise indicator on your dash will glow Red (EITMS off) or Green (EITMS on)
That's it, that's all. Do it as many times as you like.
Hi there, I am from Sweden and I've got a problem understanding what you mean by "Roll the throttle to the closed (off) position".can you describe the procedure because I thougt that the throttle was closed when the bike is in idle.
Hey there, Hey.
I'm talkin my 08 ultra, I tryed to activate the heat manegment system but there is nothing there. I dont really see a use for it anyway.

On the '08 Touring bikes with Throttle by Wire, when the throttle is at idle you can roll the throttle forward past idle by about a 1/4".

You must have an '08 that was produced prior to HD incorporating the change. I know I have a July '07 bike and it isn't on mine either.
