Default Heat Management Download (User Selectable)?

I read somewhere recently that the '08s produced after 11/07 had the heat management program "user selectable". ie the user could enable/disable at will and not have to have the dealer program it on or off. Does anyone have the word on if the "user selectable program" can be downloaded to 08's produced prior to 11/07? All I got from "my dealer" was "ah....bring it in, we'll put it on "the machine" and see. Duh..ah..ruh..thanks fo de help, *** clown. I can't believe they don't know the answer to this simple question. Heck, it's just a software download, they out to be able to tell from VIN or a service notice from the MoCo, yes or no. Guess "That's normal, they all do that" didn't fit so I got a dumb look from them for free. Any word? Thx.

I don't know how the USER/OWNER could enable or disable the feature without the use of the Digital Tech system the dealers have but stranger things have happened.

If you had a SERT and a computer you could enable/disable it yourself, but on a stock ECM?[sm=ummmmokay.gif]

Well I remember reading on the board somewhere that in the latest version of the owners manual the procedure is on something like page 108? 148? (something like that). It's a procedure like twisting the throttle open, switch on, motor off, blah,blah,blah.... It's not the same procedure as resetting the idle....

Anyone who bought a touring bike in the past month or two care to look it up and post? please?

On the newer Owners manuel for the RG, it's on page 140.

Engine idle temperature management System

It's on the touring bikes built after Nov. 07. Check it out. It works, I've tried it. If you haven't got it, they may be able to up date your ECM so you can do it yourself.

Basically this is the procedure.

Turn the bike to the on position. Kill switch as wellon.Make sure the cruise is off. Don't start the bike.

Roll the throttle to the closed (off) position and hold it there for about 3 seconds.

The cruise indicator on your dash will glow Red (EITMS off) or Green (EITMS on)

That's it, that's all. Do it as many times as you like.

It's called "Engine Idle Temperature Management System" and it's on page 140 of the manual. It shuts down the rear cylinder at idle when the engine is hot. Touring bikes are delivered from the factory with the system disabled. If you want to enable it (or disable later) the procedure is:
[ol][*]Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the motorcycle).[*]Push the throttle to roll-off position and hold.[*]After approximately 3 seconds, the cruise indicator lamp will either flash green (enabled) or red (disabled).[/ol]
Hope this helps!

Wow. I had no idea of this capability with the '08's.

Thanks for posting.

I just had the dealership do mine this past Saturday. These 110's are hotter n hell. Took the lowers off also to help with the heat management. Dealership said MOCO allows 1 on and 1 off of the down for free. Have not been out in enough heat this weekend..weather turned cooler, but I will say I can feel the difference with the lowers gone. Mucho air between my legs.

Tried on mine but doesn't work, guess I'd have to get the dealer download if I want this feature.
