Soot, pre-detonation, ???
I have a question(s) I hope someone can answer. One day I had the RK close to the house (couple of feet away)when I started her up. I let her idol for a few to warm up a bit before taking off to work when I had noticed a lot of soot had accumulated onto the house from the exhaust. I could uderstand if it was just a mild discoloration...but I am talking actual particals had accumulated.
Now, a little back info. I bought her used. She is a 2000 Road King EFI and has had a Stage 1 SE kit installed and supposedly mapped and all that. Could this be the cause? I have also noticed that under hard acceleration (not wide open, just under a good hard load)...I get pre-detonation..."rocks pinging up under the tank". I obviously back off the throttle and go on. But, it is irritating. Could all this be due to the Stage 1 kit? Maybe it wasn't mapped properly. Is there anyway I can test it...check its mapping and whatnot? Generally, it runs great, no issue. I run premium gas to get the highest octane level possible...even run EFI cleaner through from time to time to keep everything clean. I really don't want to resort to taking her up to the MoCo for testing if I can avoid it. I would rather wrench myself. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated...
