Anyone here doing any "on the side" powder coating work? Thinking of having some coating done, wanna save some cash doing it, but give you guysa chance first. Closer to Iowa the better!
Look local, Shipping charges will put at the no savings mark. My buddy just bought all the stuff to powder coat, I'll be giving it a try with some lowers I have laying around from my old Superglide. If it works good I'll be doing my stock lowers and cowbells and putting them up on ebay.
All powder coaters are not created equal. Find a good one and stick with him. I've been slowly taking off chrome pieces and powder coating them. It's an addictive habit-- better watch out...
I sent mine do a place in cali,Bppowdercoating It is cheaper to ship than pay for gas to take them somewhere,I had about 15 pieces done for a 100 bucks.
Oh, southwest corner, Burlington is quite a trip. I lived in Fort Madison for a while, no, not at the prison! My friend worked there and I moved there for a while during the floods. Snake alley in Burlington is pretty cool, but overflowing rivers are not!
I can certainly appreciate you wanting to save some money and give someone a little experience in the process. However, you get what you pay for in most cases when it comes to finishing work. No matter if it's metal, wood, stone, etc. if the prices are bargin basement it's usually for a good reason. All I'm saying is, be prepared for what you receive.
I'd be happy to answer any questions or give any advise if you like... that's what I'm here for. If not, no sweat. Good luck with your project.
