I was on loop ride that got me stuck with riding over 3 miles of fresh oil and gravel and it took a toll on the oil cooler. No damage to the core but bent the fins on about 25% of the cooler. After looking for more damage elsewhere I found a bulge in my drive belt that had a small sharp rock stuck in it. Live and learn,next time I will turn around.
Some thing has been kicked up at the seam of the end caps on mine. If it was going to hit the cooling tubing with the force that it took to dent in that seam, I'd been out of oil quick on the road.
Now thinking hard on going with crash bars or going with Blenn-Air cooler. Won't have much a problem with either!
