Well today I installed the Vance Hines duals with Thunderheader slip on's, Power commander 3 & the Screamin eagle air cleaner kit on my 05 FLHTI, Wholly smokes it sounds like I went from a 4 banger to a big block, real deep sound, took it easy for the first few miles & noticed good low end torque then stoped ran it through first pretty good shifted to second poured a little more on hit third & nailed it, before I knew it I ran it up against the rev limiter, I wasnt expecting it to be that much more responsive.
My bike before this couch on wheels was a pro street custom with a 110hp 100" Ultima Elbruto & a 6 speed, the FLHT isnt near as quick as the custom but for a pig of a bike & small displacement engine I am real happy with these ad ons, great bang for your buck.
For you guys that have installed the Vance Hines duals did you have to pull the bracket on the trans to get the V/H clamp installed, I tried to use the origonal clamp but it was too thick for the heat sheild to fit over it & the V/H clamp wouldn't fit through the small opening in the bracket, I started to pull the bracket but didnt want to compromise the trans cover gasket so I was able to spread the V/H clamp apart @ 1 end, remove the threaded bolt slip the clamp through then reinstall the bolt & squeeze the clamp back together, worked out well without worrying about a leak.
I just installed the V&H True Duals and Ovals last night. I used the V&H Fuelpak which was a simple install. Lowered the rear and went for a ride at around noon today in San Diego-- 78 degrees sunny and no wind. I was amazed at the boost the new equipment gave me. Awesome!
I did the exact same thing you did with the T-Clamp provided by V&H. It was a bit of struggle but I made it work. I too was tempted to remove the bracket but like you, wisdom prevailed. At the rear where the oval slip-ons connect, I was unable to use the T-Clamp that came with the duals and used the clamp that came with the slip-ons instead. I had to loosen up the heat shield and wiggle it on but it worked just fine. I had more trouble removing the stock crossover pipes than installing the true dual. So far its the best mod Iv'e done. I'll post a pic as soon I can figure out how.
It will run even better when you get it dyno'd. Glad you like your mods. Good pipes and Air Cleaner and a SERT or PCIII make all the difference in the worle.
I have a question concerning the true duals. Last week I installed the V&H Ovals, stage 1 A/C, and PCIII and the gains were as you described, enough for a perpetual grin. What I am wondering is if there is even more gain to be expected if I add the V&H true duals to my setup ? Might as well finish it off if so, Rob.
I'm not sure you will notice any power gains but there will be no loss either. What you will notice is the cool sound, exhaust coming out of both pipes equally and the lack of heat on your right leg from the crossover.
Huge sound difference, I had the slip ons on b4 the pipes for a while & it made it sound better than stock but with the duals it has a much deeper throaty tone as a harley should, you also get the alternating sound out the pipes as it fires due to each cylinder having its own pipe, you wont regret going duals.
I ordered my V&H true duals ( Big Shots ) last week, or I thought I did. Parts 411 sent me the Big Shots Long instead! I called them and explained about the mixup. Now, I have to send them the pipes back. They are going to pay for the return shipping and let me have my Duals for the same price. I'll save about $30 more bucks. Nice people to deal with! Hope to have my Duals by the end of the month, as they were backordered at the time.
Is there anyone here running the Big Shot True Duals on their bike? If so, how do you like the like sound and performance of the pipes?
