So I'm finally got my bike dyno tune and I'm ready to rock and roll. I picked my bike up and tech tell me that they having problems printing out the dyno chart and e-mailingno biggie so he tell me the numbers 109hp and 126TQ.
Tuesday 4/2 I leave the shop and give it a hand full of throttle and before I can get on the Freeway the belt pops off I'm pissed. Of course HD didn't have a belt in stock the sold the last one two hours before.
Wednesday 4/3 I find a belt at another HD shop and take it over to my tech.
Friday 4/4 I leave the shop and give it a hand full of throttle about 4 mile up the I hear a loud bang and the bike started sliding I'm on the side of the freeway and I take a look damn it my Pulley (Aftermarket Super Spoke pulley to match my rims)broke. Yeap you reading right the pulley broke and not the bolts. I get my bike back to the I go search for a stock pulley and found two. The tech installs it and I'm off and running. I go straight home.
Saturday 4/5 I leave my house at 8:00am and go out for a ride til about 3:00pm. I pull up to the HD shop picked up a few parts. I leave and what do you know Snap another belt. I leave my bike at HD and my tech picks up my bike and replaces the belt.
Sunday 4/6 I pick up my bike I go over it with the tech everything fine. I head over to the HD shop and have the Service manager and a couple of the tch look at it and everything is fine. I leave get home and I hear some tapping. Yeap the pulley is hit my swing arm and two bolts are missing. I called the tech he come's over to my house and I put on a stock rim and stock pulley. The tech test ride the bike and snap the belt is gone again.
Monday 4/7 Take the bike to HD and let them install the belt and they broke it twice. I pick the bike up and took it home with no problem.
Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday didn't ride.On these day I sent my backrim and tpulley back to the manufacture for replacement. This experience was great should have my new parts on 4/16 Wednesday.
Friday 4/11 Rode to work and not a problem.
Saturday 4/12Morning go out for a ride for about two hours yeap you guest right the belt brokeagain. The guy's at HD and my Tech is telling me to go to a chain.
I have a 106 motor and guys on here have big motor and is running a belt with no problems. I had a 124 and had a belt on it and didn't have any problems.Eventually I went to a chain. What gives I need help. But I did have fun I beat the pants of my buddy 117 in bagger by a least two bikes.
GEEZUS! I had a problem with an aftermarket billet pulley and will never run another. Cost me a belt. I've never heard of breaking so many belts. I'd go to a chain, but it sounds like something else may be at play here. Good luck.
Im not sure why you are breaking belts are you reving it up and dumping the clutch? I have run the hell out of mine and still on the stock belt. Im just wondering what is diffrent on the road than the dyno? It did not break on the dyno right? Come on tell us are you trying to get that front end up like it is a street bike? In all seriousness Im not sure but semes something is not right you are making good power but I dont think enough to cause all that damage, Something must not be lined up or damiging the belt to cause that many failures.
That's the point I'm making. I don't know what's give I'm not poping wheelie are burning out.I know the dealer or my tech is not try to break the belts.
I can tell you I have done my share of burnouts, I can bring the front wheel up ( without clutch ) and I make 120+ ft lbs from 2500 to 4000 rpm Peaking at 134ftlbs. I Have not at this point had this issue and I ride with others making serious power and they have not had this issue. I would look hard at the transmision pully and the wheel pully as well as there alignment. Either the belt is being installed to loose or something is causing it to fail. I would get it up on a jack and look at it hard myself don't always trust the guy at the dealer looked that close, my experiance is they did not.
Wow. I've never seen a pulley break like that. I agree with asuperheat. Something must be up with your alingment or the belt is rubbing something. I guess a chain is an option, but I wouldn't feel comfortable going that direction until you've figured out why belts are breaking like toothpicks.
