Wind buffeting that people are describing isn't just the wind in the face or the turbulance from following cars or trucks to closely. Unless you have experiencedthe sensation of real buffetingand not just the turbulance of the airyou are slicing through you will have a hard time understanding what people are talking about. I'll give you an example you might be able to relate with. Have you ever driven down the freeway with the windows in your car down just a little and you can feel the pulsing of air pressure banging against your ear drums? It becomesso annoyingthat you have to close the windows because you can't stand the vibration in your head. That is the sensation you get from the buffeting, except it is your whole head rapidly bouncing up and down. It can get so bad that it blurs your vision. Old biker or new, it is what it is.

I know what they are talking about, I have RG and haveon 60K miles so far. I have the stock shield ('02) and am 6'3" with a 34" insaem so I don't hide behind it, I don't run lowers either. I hold by the premise that if someone doesn't like the windflow on the RG, they have purchased the wrong model. The forward arrangement of the fairing on the RG allows for more of the elements and unless you are willing to put a real tall and widewindshield on and look through it (illadvised) you really aren't going to avoid it. I have seen some good reports on the Clearview that seem to make it the preferred shield on this site but I haven't read if folks are looking through or over them. I ride at 75 MPH mostly and up to 100. I do notice the extra wind turbulence over my previous batwing model, but it isn't annoying enough to this "old biker" to trade it for the better handling.
I don't understand this whole head buffeting thing! I rode for years without any type of protection, including a front fender, and when I rode my bro-in-laws Road glide last year I fell in love! 95mph and a stereo! What more could you ask for! Ride an old shovel or pan and then ride the Glide. Head buffeting?
Dear Tramp, please realise the folks here haven't rdden forever and don't much like the wind.....................
Yaa but that don't justify snivelin! People are so soft now they gotta complain about a fairing & windshield? Holy Crap Batman.....
I look over my 2" over clearview fbn ent, I rode a shovel since buying it new in 83 still got the ole girl !I ride very early in the morning's to work around 4 am and those creek bottoms get pretty cold I just didn't care for the factory shield much, the clearview worked out great, and the lower's, I just thought they looked good on it, sorta rounded out the shark nose a bit
I noticed the same thing when I test rode a Road Glide. I really liked the bike except for the way the wind pulsed against my head. Never felt such a thing. I'm 6'2" and I thought that might be part of it. I've been riding bikes with and without windshields since the 1960's and the wind buffeting was worse than if there was no windshield. There is a 2" taller windshield from HD that might change the air flow, but I wanted so many other changes that I got an Ultra Classic instead. I really did like the looks and ride of that Road Glide, though. I've got a feeling that its a matter of shaping the wind with a windshield and other parts. Too bad it's so much trouble, but it will be worth it as its a good ride.

Thanks for the info. I have a 12" KW on order and will try it for a while, probably 'till it's worn out like my stocker, I'm pretty cheap, but I'll have to see. I don't ride to work at 4 AM but I do live in Northern Alberta, Canada and you don't have to be in a creek bottom to be cold.

I'll second that..... I'm going with the CV GT largemyself.
I put fairing lowers on this winter more for protection from the cold ,but as a side bonus the buffeting is gone and I don't have to keep pushing my sunglasses back on my head at 80 mph,I am 6ft and have a stock windshield, the lowers are definetly worth the cash.
