Default HD Shipping Question

OK, I'll admit it. I'm bouncing off the walls waiting for my 08 Crimson Red Sunglo Street Glide to arrive.

I made the deal on March 3 and at that time the shipping date according to the dealer was April 18 - this Friday. Not new to riding, but this is my first H-D. Also, a new experience to be able to order factory options and the color I want. My dealer had an SG set for the 18th, but it was the "wrong" color, didn't have ABS/Cruise and had the "wrong" wheels (I travel way too much to deal with spoked wheels - if I get a flat, I want to be able to patch it up on the road). It's finally nice here in New York State and my only riding option is my wife's 400cc scooterso I'm really itching.

Sorry for the long-winded intro to my question! Here it is: In your experience, when does the dealer get notification of shipping andget the VIN in relation to the ship date. I've heard multiple and conflicting stories from my dealer. I've been lurking around this forum since I made the deal and there seems to be a wealth of knowledge here. So what can you tell me?

My last call to the dealer's "delivery coordinator" resulted in the following: "I haven't heard of any delays with the touring bikes, so yours will probably ship on time." Hell, I'm so anxious that I even want to get going on the loan paperwork....

Thanks!

Having worked at an HD dealership the shipping dates are normally pretty accurate. Dealers normally get there shipments on a certain day of the week. If the shipping date is the 18th I would look for the bike to be in within a week of that date. Hope you enjoy your new ride.

Be glad your ship date is close to when you ordered it. I ordered my RK on Dec. 29th. Ship date was April 4th. They did actually move it up to March 28th. I rode it off the dealership on April 3rd.

I think the dealerhas access tothe VIN when the bike is completed being built. Once built, you should get a ship date. You'll have to bug your salesman to look it up on their computer. Pretty simple for them to do but you know how lazy salesman can be once the deal is done....

They normally find out about the shipment about a week prior (in my experience). With that being said, the last bike I bought they found out about it when it showed up at the dealer. They called me and told me they were unloading the crate as we spoke.

Thanks. I would think they'd have it by now and would want me to do the rest of the paperwork, but being new to the HD side, I figured I'd ask here. Obviously, my call this week didn't result in: "Wait a minute and I'll look it up....
