08 Ultra Problem
Well, I finally got to bring home my new scoot on Monday night.I took all of the back roads home vs the Hwy as it was 70 miles. I get the bike home and the mileage says 87 miles. I start to do a post trip inspection for any leaks, loose parts, etc. Upon my inspection I notice weeping at the base of the rearjug , it goes from the right side to the left side. I then notice more on the front jug too.A new bike with 87 miles and problems already, is this a sign for more to come or is gonna be the only problem.I took the bike in last night (Tuesday) to a dealer that is close to home and they are going to fix the problem for me.Hopefully get it home soon seeing as the weather is getting nice enough to ride now.
I love the bike and hope this is the only problem I will have.
Thanks for the rant!

I hate to say seeing as I now have one also but a friend had his 08 Ultra do the same thing. Dealer had to tear down engine and replace faulty parts but he hasn't had a problem since. I have seen several post with this problem but other than the inconvenience it's a easy fix. Stay positive, you'll love the bike.
I just bought a 08 FLHTCI and its doing the same thing on both cylinders, cleaned it up with brake Kleen and have only been able to get about 100 miles on it, but it has not come back yet, will see in time, I have seen these leaks clear themselves up by themselves, Hoping its only oil from the cylinder studs and headbolt assembly, may have used to much oil on the headbolt treads when assembling. Hope anyway!. Not much if any oil showing just turned the black power coat darker at the cylinder bases. Doc
A friend of mine at work had his 2007 SG in today. The first thing I went and did was look at the jugs, sure enough his are weeping too. I told him to take it to the dealer and have it fixed..Maybe enough of these complaints will get the problem fixed for the future. My 2000 did not start weeping until about 12K and it was so minor that I never did have them fix it as it was out of warranty.
I'll let you know what the dealer says when they call me..

I know it's not a 96ci but my 2006 leaked there when I first got it... Cleaned it off and never came back after 40,000 miles. I would clean it (be careful what you use) and ride it see if it comes back.. I would rather they did not crack open my new motor if they did not have to..
Yep HD's Quality control at it's finest.
Doubt it was excess oil on studs during assembly (could be but doubt it).
Most likely the studs stretched somewhat or wasn't fully torqued right.
could be a lot of things down to a pizzed assembly tech.
If numerous engines do it, HD can track it back to the assembly person,
but you'll probably never hear of it.
Make sure you get all the paper work on it.
If it happens again (or something else). Call H.D MOCO, file a verbal complaint
and get a reference number. Follow up with a certified return receipt letter to them
using the reference number, keep a copy for yourself.
Post the reference number here and what the complaint was about. Any body here
that experiences the same problem save his reference number, and do the same, get
your own reference number. Then in your letter use both.
When HD finds we are also tracking their reference numbers, it won't leave them any-
place to hide if any one issue should have to go to court.
The internet is a powerful tool. Learn to use it.
after you file your letter, take a copy of it and another one for the dealer, same thing
mail it certified, this becomes your PROOF you notified them and when.
And of course keep all your receipts.
And since you are experiencing a problem take it to the dealer for all service until the
problem no longer appears (I know it's expensive, but HD will claim they are not at fault,
because some one else did the routine service--- you got to learn how they think).
But good luck. and post here what they found was the cause.
We all can use the added knowledge.
