Give Howard a call at Motorcycle Metal. He is FastHarley on this forum. This guys knows his chit. He's one of those guys that have genuinely been there and done that. You can contact him through his site. www.motorcyclemetal.com
He hooked me up with a set of hardware to turn my HD "floating" rotor into a real floating rotor.
Now if he would only tell me what is supposed to go on the other side of that front hub.........
He made me a new set of rotor buttons that will allow the rotor disc to actually float on the rotor hub. You'd have to talk to Howard to get the technical explanation of why the HD one doesn't float, and why it will with the hardware he made me. I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but I'm hoping to very soon. Gotta get to my Dad's place to use his drill press.
I'll defintely post a report. I doubt the braking performance under normal conditions will be a huge improvement. According to Howard, where the improvement will be is under repeated and heavy use of the brake. Think riding a real twisty road 2 up with bags packed. Either way, I'll give a report.
You should give Howard a call to discuss it with him. He is truly a wealth of knowledge and a good guy. If you think he comes on a little strong, just remember he is ONLY concerned about your safety. He'll probably even get a dig on my single front rotor set-up if you prod him a little.
