i have a 05 rkcustom with the adjustable air ride suspension iand i think it rides hard and the reason i am saying that is because my wife has a 07 streetbob which is in the dyna family and i took it for a ride and that thing was smooth as butter over bumps where as my roadking rides really hard and i think for the bike being the king it should ride a lot smoother i run about 18 psi in the shocks and i even have a gel pad in the seat so i am looking for advice on some smooth riding shocks any help would be appreciated
Have you tried less air in the shocks?
The reason I say this is that I usually run 5-7 lbs solo and 16-18 lbs 2 up.
The ride changes drastically depending on the rear pressure for sure.
I'm 180 and the wife is (she won't say) around 155 lbs , and these pressures work for us very well.
I tried 20,24,26 in the shocks and even 2 up ,with a full load , was too much pressure for a comfortable ride.
Just a thought.
Mick
I agree with Mick, I have tried a number of different pressures for the best ride. I have found that 16-18 for 2 up and 20 with it fully loaded for a trip to work best. When solo I run between 8-12 psi and are quite comfortable. Play around with it I have heard from friends they like the pressure higher some like it lower.
get the air pump out and play with it. give it a blo j.. and see what pressure works best ..Micks right , the custom has a little heaver duty shock than others..I think it's max. psi. is 40 # where my flht std. is 35 # it may be cause it's a lowered bike ?? Steve
Ok joe V, here is the deal. Your bike will possibly ride a little ruffer than the standard, classic, and ultra cause you have shorter shocks. You share the same shock as the SG. The custom was replaced and production of the SG began on that line based off the custom. If you find the shock bottoming out at lower pressure and can't find a happy medium, I would be glad to trade you shock for shock from my 05 standard.. or... if you decide to get the best ride and go for progressive spring shocks I would be interested in buying them from you!! Just a thought...
