I did mine last November. I bought most of my components from AMS, and they recommended 0.040 head gasket for my build. (I got the Cometic gasket kit from AMS.)
We'll is apart . No real suprises, took my time marked everthing, no big deal, Gonna take lunch then to the shop for a clutch cable (teflon)/ gasket( I'll need something to do later right. Also found 1 fairing brkt. broken, so I'll be welden it up too.[:@][:@][:@] I might get the Burly Bros. "easyboy" lite clutch if they have one since its apart..I'm gonna call Parts Direct and see what the have. their in Vegas and I got my cam kit there. 800-220-7005 gopartsdirect.com.. Take a pill before your build your backs gonna need it, take care. Steve
When I did my AMS 96" BB, I used the SE high-performance clutch spring along with the ramps from the reduced effort clutch kit. With the clutch stock configuration, there was clutch slippage under a heavy load while the bike was on the dyno. (I did not experience any slippage on the street.)
I got a reply from Zanotti's. For the cometic gasket kit, with the .030" HG (PN 0934-0762) is $75.12 + $14.65 for shipping (to me in NM). Total of $89.77. That just about makes up my mind for me. To do just the cams the adjustable pushrods were going to be just over a hundred, and then I would still need the gasket kit when I do the BB. Now, I will just buy the gasket kit, and use my stock pushrods. I have to wait until Monday to order the parts, though. And he said it would take them about five days to get them, then ship it to me. So, I will be doing the entire job two weeks from today... there abouts...
dcfatboy i was thinking all you really need is the newer ramp and not use the lighter spring?? I put the new cable on and it still sucks.. The burley bros. piece is just the ramp ,it's only $25 +- .. I was wondering about slippage, but the h/d kit is stock on newer bikes,96" which is then pumped to 103" ?? I'm gonna try and find the b/bros, next week. Oh I wanted to tell ya all I only bled once during the tear down. I've got a 7:30 t-time (golf) so I'll clean some parts in the p.m.
Wish I had my sh;T together ,this thing could be going back together.[:@][:@].. Steve
That is what I am trying to do. Get everything together, so it is a smooth process. Even with all my preplanning, I just know that something is going to come up, LOL. Enjoy your golf day. At least you got something accomplished...

Yup, do not use the lighter spring in the reduced effort clutch kit - just use the ramps. I replaced my stock clutch spring with the SE clutch spring.
My current theory on the HD 96" stock clutch setup is that the engine does not put out enough torque to cause slippage while riding. (I experienced this even with the pre-06 stock setup and my bike - I only had slippage on the dyno under a heavy load.)
