Default 1st 95" build ??

Tomorrow night I'm starting my tear down for my 95" build. I've rebuilt dirt bikes I've built my 39 ford street rod so I know i can do this. I've also done two gear drive set-ups on TC 88 w/ adj.push rods.. So any tips you guy's have ?? Is there a gasket kit I can order?? Are H/D gaskets best?? Easiest?? My stealer is pretty good. It doesn't look like I need any real special tools ?? My bike came used w/ a thunder jet kit.(.not thunder slide) which uses a diff.emoulsion tube w/ a 185 main jet.3 1/2 turns out air fuel, with their needle on the middle groove, stock 45 slo. jet.. I'll have to get a 190 main but any ideas about the needle or slo/jet??
While apart is there any mods. I should do(sorry no head work now). I'm going to take out the adj. push rods. I'll install the burly bros. clutch arm and a new teflon cable.. I have a shop manuel, but my SE pistons have no instructions, do I need them ?? I'm going to have my barrels bored Tues, @ $170 seems fair to me ??..Thanks in advance I'm sure glad all you guy's/gals are here to help if I need it. The local shop Custom Design Studios had a open house last night and they unvailed the new Geico Ins. bike they built,,I'll try to get some pics up..Awsome build.. Ride safe Steve

Default RE: 1st 95" build ??

Steve, I am still trying to figure out which gaskets to get for my build. I have the 95" jugs and pistons, as well as the cams and gaskets/bearing kit for the cams. I still need to buy the adjustable pushrods/tubes. Money is tight, so I have been sitting on these parts for a while. I have never attempted any of this, but am fairly sure I can handle it. Cometic gaskets are suppose to be good, and I heard it is best to use the .030" HG. I want a complete 1550 gasket kit from cometic, but all the kits I find have the .040" HG. I will be interested to see what anyone has to say on this. BTW, check out this link, as it has a walk through of a BB build... http://www.harleyhog.co.uk/index.htmJust scroll down... Hope it helps and keep me informed as to what you find out for the gaskets, and the rejetting...

PappaTravis if your using a bolt in type cam 510 lift you can user your stock p-rods. No need for ez inst. rods, I'm taking my adjs. out when I do the build to put the more realiable stockers back in. Now your $160 ahead get that build done. Back to work Steve

I gone back and forward with that. I am installing some used SE 204's I picked up cheap. Someone gave me some SE 203's, but after reading about the two, I think the SE 204's will work better for me, so I will be giving the SE 203's away. Now that I have the PN for the gasket kit I need, I might just do the entire BB at one time, and forgo the adjustable puchrods. I was thinking I would do the cams first (which is why I would need the adjustables), but now I gotta figure it out. One question, the cylinders and pistons I have were Philm's. Should I clean the cylinders and pistons with some soapy water, and then oil them up, or install them as I got them, used?

As far as the tools for the inner bearing, I was lucky to find a forum member that let me borrow his. But, you can rent a blind spot puller from autozone, which will do the trick.

Steve, when I enter PN C9844 at Zanotti's, it does not pull up anything. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to call them, to place the order?

PappaTravis callin it a night, I got down to the rocker boxes' .tomorrow I,ll tear it the rest of the way.. We'll probably have to call?? I'll see what my indy. can do cause I can't wait too long they're East coast I'm West (CA)..I'll look it up on their site and see if those #'s look good. I don't know if I'd use water on the pistons and cylinder bore a splash while cleaning the outsides o.k. .. if they look good wipe down a little oil and run it.. Do your build all at once, save money and then you'll have no regrets, hell you have the parts. Did I read you were a Dice Man somewhere ??? Steve

Well, you have made more progress than I have, LOL. The cylinders and pistons had about 4k worth of miles put through them... enough to break them in. I know I just need to get going on this... I keep putting it off... I guess I fear messing something up, which is stalling me... plus, I still need those gaskets. I hate the thought of tearing it down, and having to wait on parts.

And yeah, I deal dice. I work at an Indian Casino in NM. Been at it for about 5 years now. It's an ok job, and the money is decent, for here. If you can handle the smoke, which is the worst part of it. I am starting to have some issues with my back, so I just took a dual rate position, which means that I will be trading off between dealing, and sitting box... flooring. I tried to hold off on the flooring position as long as possible, but with me being 300 pounds, the muscles in my back are in a constant state spasms...

Keep me up on the build, and I will do the same, if I ever get started...

Steve, looking through drag specialties at cometic gaskets, I show

PN 0934-0762
For 99-06 Twin Cam w/ 95” big bore kit and .030” head gaskets
$102.95(Cometic) I am going to email Zanotti's now, to see what the price will be for it. Might just call tomorrow, as well, but I am up now, so I will drop a email.
