I don't think it will be as funny as most want to think it is. After the food, rent / house payment, taxes, gasoline, utilities ect the average harley owner is going to be scratching to even think about the new purchase. A small indication is the amount of bikes on the market less than two years old. Paying those interest payments mightput a little more stress on an already overtaxed budget. As far as older bikes retaining a higher value .... they can't sell them for what they are asking now. I feel harley has reached the point of value. Is a dresser worth the 20 plus thousand for a two wheeled vehicle ? Take a lesson from the car market. Many that said they wouldn't be caught riding in a foreign car may have two in the garage. No the sky isn't falling but many will take a common sense approach to future purchases. Before I buy another bike I want to see some technology. The pre war air cooled updates are no longer in my future. In place of layoffs I would like to see the production of a totally new design machine priced within the average family income. Just my 2 cents.

HD is doing what they need to do to stay in bussiness. The only thing I see that would cause them to reduce prices is all the HD dealerships starting a price war. I am sure HD has something in their franchise rules to stop that. Just in my area 1 hr radius there are9 HD dealersThe only thing other than that is all the onlne stores lowering their prices to the point it hurts HD's after market bussiness.

The reason they gave you a good trade-in was because they could get a good price for your used bike.
Now the market is soft and you can't give a used bike away much less a new one. Remember now who the good Dealers were when they could put a screwin to us and spend your $ there!

I'm with ya AZ Rider. Strange how the concept of hard times has changed. In my Dads time he delivered news papers on foot before school as a kid and gave the pennies heearned to his Mom (His Dad workded dawn to dusk for $8/week and owned a fifteen year old pickup which he used mostly for work, couldn't afford a pickup And a car). After school, he went fishing cause if he didn't there might not be'meat' on the table at dinner. In my time, many nights we ate mac and cheese with canned tuna in itfor dinner (not cause we loved mac and cheese or tuna) but we had a small comfortable home and my dad owned car not a truck. Today we're on $700-$2000 computers talking about $20000+/- toys and buying hunks of chrome for $50-$1500 just for chromes sake. Gas costs us $3.50 a gal., It's closer to $6 in Europe. Most people who want, get three meals a day and have a roof over there head.1/3 of theworld are lucky to get one cup of rice aday and have no roof, not by choice. Oh and the price of rice per ton has gone from about $250 in 2002 to projected $800+ in 2009. Yeah, strange how the concept of hard times in the U.S. has changed.O.K., Rant over, Thanks for your time.
Kinda puts things into perspective. . .my grandfather was 103 (born 1886) when he passed in 1989. The stories I heard growing up. No matter how bad we think we've got it, there's been far worse here. If anything we've been spoiled with the entitlement mentality. My kids, although I work on them constantly, have some of it. A little hardship is good for the soul. JMTC

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! I'm going for a ride now.
Exactly, and allthe Chicken Little's out there better run for cover because the liberal news media keeps trying to scare everybody and always makes things appear to be worse then they are. In fact they're the ones who cause most of this, especially if there is a Republican in the White House in an election year. WellI gotta go and run for cover because,THE SKY is FALLING! THE SKY is FALLING!

New designs and new production costs money. And lots of it.
Hence lay-offs would be my guess.

"within the average family income."
Well you have a Sportster or a Honda.
Since this is your last Harley, have fun on your Honda.

I can guess what news media some of these people are tunning in on.
I have never made more money in my life, Right Now!

You make excuses to fail. You do what you have to in order to succeed. It's my decision to go one way, it's your decision to go yours. If thats your decision.
The media Hype about how bad it is? You go ahead and listen to them, and fail.

Since it's only one party they support, the very same party that needs you to need them.

Failure for me, is not an option.
Life is good!

i'm in the car business and sell mostly work trucks to oil and oil field service companies. i kinda like 3.oo gas cause my business is good. it still hurts to fill up but i guess thats the price i pay. however, now days this run up in price is due to nothingmore than scumbag speculators and the devaluation of the dollar. i am a republican at heart but this idiot in the white house (and his cronies) do not have a clue. then the fact that general motors hasn't produced a truck in nearly two months due to a supplier strike, i am out of trucks to sell, well, it sucks. everybody needs to suck it up, including the uaw idiots up north, and get back to work. efveryone needs to read lee iococcas' new book. he hits it right on the head...ok...i'm thru ranting now.....ride safe

I saw an interesting comment recently,
Newspapers have predicted 36 of the last 6 recessions.
