HD cancels orders, lays off workers...shutdowns coming
I was down at my local dealer today and was talking to the Sales Manager, He just got off the phone with the MOCO and was told they were canceling 29 orders from his allotment, He was not to happy, Maybe the price of used bikes will go up..(ihope)
Hopefuly 15 or 20 % of the shareholders will bail on them too.
Maybe then we will get their attention to start taking care of their customers first!!
and raise their quality control.
since the international market is only doing 25% of all sales, won't take much drop there
to topple the rest of the house of cards!!
JohnnyD, we are in tune
I too have stated here that we are in a serious recession and many here responded that all was cool andI was full of crap.
I'm glad I made good investments last 15 years....And I'm glad I stocked away firewood and other nice to have consumablesnow that things are really starting to suck.
and we haven't had that? maybe we're headed that way, but we haven't got there yet.....
Couldn't happen to a more deserving company and I am doing my share to pull the cards on them too.

They do generally put customers first, just not you.
Citibank to $200 million and also owns a fair amount of the U.S. Debt.
Yep Bush has finally bankrupted us, and all the big corps that sent jobs
overseas aren't helping one bit.

Where are you working? I need a job soon when I get back as Michigan stinks in that department.
As for HD, looks like when the stock goes down it's time to buy and ride it out. As for bike prices they may dip but a cut in production should bring up the used bike values and possibly go back to the wait in line order system again for new. Lets just hope they don't move manufacturing to Iraq, Mexico,Indiaor China like the rest. If you want to see where it all is going follow the money trail...............................right to the Arab countries. I've never seen so many rich people in my life, they have so much they use bricks of it in their BBQ to cook with, did I mention the amount of SERVANTS they have? I bet if you dig deep enough you'll find they alsoOWN us sad to say.
I'm OK now..........................I better stop.
Your right, new technology costs money. I heard the NAVY still has wind powered ships and jet aircraft are on the horizon. Don't you think for one moment the motor company makes adequate profit to update some of their fantastic transmissions and overheated air cooled power plants ? Good thing you have a new one in the garage, just don't try to sell it. Maybe your the exception with the big income butmany of us average wage earners still expect an up to date advancement in improvement which should be ongoing.
When I was in the Marine Corps we got the Navy leftovers. Times have changed . The days of MSRP for harley are in the past. You want an eye opener.... bring your bike to the dealer for a trade price. That two minute conversation will explain the value of their product.
OOPs all out, will have to settle for ice cream instead!
Choo-Choo is going to have a woody ofver this news.

HD is attempting to keep price and demand high while dealers end up 'dealing' with local supply/demand and local economics.....I predict many dealers will close.
If that's the case, I'm wondering if the bike I ordered will be produced and shipped to the east coast ?? In March I ordered a pewter pearl R/G, with a due date to be delivered sometime in May.....hmmmmmmm, now I'm curious !!!
I'm betting your bike will arrive right on schedule.
