HD cancels orders, lays off workers...shutdowns coming
In after hours trading today Honda brought 51% of the out standing shares of HD under three private companies.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving company and I am doing my share to pull the cards on them too.
Hopefuly 15 or 20 % of the shareholders will bail on them too.
Maybe then we will get their attention to start taking care of their customers first!!
and raise their quality control.
since the international market is only doing 25% of all sales, won't take much drop there
to topple the rest of the house of cards!!
So, lay off a bunch of people and cut production to weather the storm. This all makes sense and is a prudent thing to do. They probably could have avoided this by not financing anyone that had any problems at all with credit or couldn't make a big down payment, but I'd rather they cut production and make the commodity scarcer; thus raising the value of the ones already out there.
Let's face it, I bought new because the used were selling for only a couple of thousand less. Well, not totally true I also wanted cruise control, six gallon tank, etc. But for low mileage and a clean bike at a substantial savings, I might have bought used.
I really like the idea of the dealers having to scramble and actually deal with the customers. Jerks have been having it too damn easy. Now if their service departments would come up to snuff....
Ya know, every Harely dealer is actually 4-5 separate businesses...you got sales, apparel, parts, marketing and service....they all have to make a profit and they each have to deal with customers.
I've found my that my bestrelationship is with the guys in parts.....I love them to death...we all know each other and i tip them whenever they come thru and even if they don't.....the dealer they work for hammers them, but us riders take care of them.
I'd like to get to know the guys in service but the service manager blocks the door......the gals in apparel don't last a week....the sales staff think evey customer is stupid...but the guys in parts keep me coming at least once a week.

Breakingnews.....HD suffering poor sales....HD credit losing big cause they can't pawn off financed bike loans.
Plant closings and layoffs to come.....Dealer inventories to shrink..........production cuts.....orders canceled.
Yep........I saw it coming.
And it willbe REALLy bad by this time next year.
Have you guys also noticed that classifieds are full of low mileage used Harleys selling for payoff?
due to the low dollar.
Us Europeans will keep Harley in business and prevent layoffs

That's what friends are for.

Rocknrod;
Your right, new technology costs money.
I heard the NAVY still has wind powered ships and jet aircraft are on the horizon.
Don't you think for one moment the motor company makes adequate profit to update some of their fantastic transmissions and overheated air cooled power plants?
The company is selling what their base is asking for. They have a product that is being asked for. Hello?
Good thing you have a new one in the garage, just don't try to sell it.
If youâre in most of north America it would be impossible to use one as a daily driver.
So if you own a toy, why would you worry about selling it?
Maybe your the exception with the big income butmany of us average wage earners still expect an up to date advancement in improvement which should be ongoing.
If youâre thought process was a MASS thought process, then the MOCO will change. Until then...
When I was in the Marine Corps we got the Navy leftovers. Times have changed . The days of MSRP for Harley are in the past. You want an eye opener.... bring your bike to the dealer for a trade price. That two minute conversation will explain the value of their product.
And yes times have changed. The USMC doesnât get Navy leftovers anymore.
And just so you understand about me and my work/income position. I joined the Navy at 17 years old. You know the military where the media (the one youâre listening to telling you the sky is falling) says we are all losers? From a broken home. I left high school early i.e. I dropped out. I was an Aviation Boatswain's Mate, Catapults and Arresting Gear. You know the guys who do that dangerous stuff cause no one else will? The stuff thatâs hard work? You'd suck a crank for an 18 hour day?
I worked harder and longer than anyone else around me just to shine. And eventually made allot more rank than I ever dreamed possible. I did what I had to do to be successful.
When I got out to the civilian industry I figured, I'll try the same thing. What can I loose?
Amazing!
Doing what you have to do to be successful.
Not coming home every night having a beer and complaining about how bad it is.
Or how bad the MOCO is.
Can you do better?
There is always an opening for a new bike on the market, just read these posts.
