I am interested in putting satellite radio on the bike and would like to know if you guys with satellite set up could post some pics. And if possible a brief discription of the install. I did a search and am in the proccess of going through the post now. Thanks in advance
did my install last year, and it worked ok for awhile. then vibration took its toll. easy fix was to wrap the hair ties around the radio/cradle/plugs. works fine now.some may think the ant. hanging off the tour-pac looks hokie, but i don't loose reception, ever. can hang the *** end out a little if under shelter and still rock out. by ever, i mean on the road
I have the Sirius antenna inside the fairing on top of the stock radio, and I tapped into the power inside the fairing also, then I run the signal cable to the aux input on the front of the radio.
Here's mine on my RG. Fits there perfect, held with a couple of small pieces of hd velcro and no unsightly wires visable anywhere. The wires run under the necalle and the power is wired direct, you can see the antenna it the top of the radio, I have tried it a lot of places over the years and this is the best spot for reception. I hooked into the aux input by pulling the raido, filing a thin line on the edge for the wire to run so it wouldn't rub through and loop up as pictured. This is the cleanest most natural looking install I have seen. The hardest thing is finding an aux cable with compact elbow connections on both ends. Hadsame setupon my 01 for couple of years same way, works great and if it rains, just unplug it and put it somewhere dry or cover with a baggie. Sorry pics are so dark, another dreary day here and no lights in my barn.
That looks like a pretty clean set up, it does look nice. It seems like the unit blocks the idots lights on your dash. Is that just the way the photo was taken? I started looking into the biketronics kit with the Sony radio that has Sirius built in so I could use all the handlebar controls and have a clean, stock looking set up. Although yours does look nice and is no doubt a lot cheaper.
Hey Marvin I know it looks like it blocks the idiot lights but it doesn't, there is room there for this particular unit which is a Sirius Starmate Replay. It's a little older unit and far better quality than the newer units, also works on 12 volts which makes it easy to wire direct. The newer units are 5 volts. You can find great deals on these on ebay. I highly reccomend buying one of the activated units from a seller who goes by rarey57. I have nothing to do with him but have bought a lot of gear from him over the years and have always been more than satisfied. PM me if you need more info....
