Default Which battery? And from where?

Which replacement battery are you guys going with for your Roadkings? Is one any better than another? Can I get one at my local walmart or auto parts store or should I go to the dealer?

I'm sure the stealer will tell you to use "only HD approved"
batteries because of quality, blah blah blah, and oh by the way
a premium price also.

I wouldn't say Walmart is the best bike battery place. Autoparts
stores would be good as long as it is a motorcycle rated battery.

I would try a local indy shop first though.

IMO, the HD battery is hard to beat. They are Yuasa batteries. You may save a few bucks by shopping around and getting the same battery minus the HD label. What ever you do, get a AGM battery. Do try to save a few bucks by getting a conventional battery that you have to maintain and then worry about it leaking acid all over your bike.

Ken, and others, I highly recommend the DEKA AGM batteries. They became OEM on 100% of harleys in 2007, prior to that custom chopperbuilders and the military used them. I discovered them in 2005 while running a Vespa dealer, downtowners have no clue why someone would use a battery tender and would constantly crab about having to replace wet-cel batteries every year. Never had complaints after selling them the Deka's. The AGM technology is similar to a deep-cycle, you can run it all the way down and still be able to get it to hold a charge after. You'll have to get on Deka's or East Penn mfg (who, by the way manufature batteries for Yuasa, Diehard, Interstate, among others) website to find someone close to you who handles them.

Nearest Deka outlet is 90 miles from here. I guess I'm dealer bound.[>:]

HD You can buy a cheap over priced walmart if you want. But Hd will last and hold up to riding the bike. Walmarts are made to park the bike.
Shop Hd sale you do ok on it

I second HD battery.

Just changed mine. Didn't know if it really needed it since I tested the regular voltage and stator output, when doing so found one of the phases from the stator into the regulator was looking like the terminal was getting hot.

That would account for the thing not keeping 14 volts up all the time.

Squeezed my contacts and loaded with plenty dialectric grease. Now even with the new battery its running great.

So what I'm saying is check all of your contacts for proper fit, tightness and water repelling ablity before diving onto the battery.

As several have stated the battery either lasts 2 to 3 years (my case) or 4 / 5 / 6... years.

Figure the odds that the battery may be good, test it with a good battery tester before spending the money.
